I'm a post whore today. Related to the earlier poll: Barring the things life throws at us, if you could, how many children would you like? What about your SO? Did you always want this number?

if kids were free, I think I'd like two. for H and I both, we want to have a similar quality of life that we have now, and be able to provide that for our kid(s), which is why we will likely be one and done.

If money and space and time were not an issue, and I had magical unicorn pregnancies with no nausea or discomfort, 3. As it stands I will be happy with 2.
DH always wanted 2, I wanted like 6 before I had any, then 3 after DD.

H wanted 3, I wanted 2. We were given 3 so I guess it’s settled. 🤷♀️

H actually never wanted kids, period, due to his experience with his mother growing up. He agreed to one because he knew how much I wanted to be a mom, but I honestly think he's going to love being a dad. Growing up I always wanted 3, but I'm not sure anymore if that's realistic. I guess we'll see!

Growing up I wanted 3-4. Then I was a nanny and would have to physically separate the kids I watched and realized I have only two hands so it became 2. H only ever wanted 2. So, 2 it is!

I always wanted four, then I was happy with two. Three seems like a good medium, but I wouldn't have been too upset if this pregnancy had been twins, so three pregnancies, but four babies.

I always wanted 3 or 4, so in an ideal world that is what I think I would want. However I do not live in an ideal world and do not plan to have any more after this one.

Before having kids I said at least 2 & DH said 2. Then we had DS and he said 1 or 2 is fine; I changed to wanting 4. But I think for our family 4 requires ideal world circumstances

I would like 4 .... DH is pretty set on 3 though so We’ve decided to have 3 and assess where we are at after that.

We always said 2. With my first child, I said I could do 3. But with this pregnancy I’m back to 2.
If money weren’t an issue and pregnancy was glamorous I could do 3. But I think we are done at 2.

Ideally, I would have loved to have two sets of twins five years apart. That way I could dote on the first two until they are ready to be in school, and then the new babies can get the extra attention. I want four, but eight years of diapers and baby stuff is daunting. And it's harder to vacation with babies and with a wider age range.
In contrast, H wanted no twins, but to have our babies very close together for the same vacation and baby stuff reasons so that's what we attempted. However, it ended up taking longer to conceive (9+ months) than we naively expected for our ages.

When I was younger and had no clue what it was like to have kids, I always wanted a huge family (4-5 kids). Two is all that we can realistically afford (and even that will be a stretch), and I don't know that I could emotionally handle more than that, especially since we both feel old and tired already. If money were no object, though, and I could stay home and hire help that I needed, and we could still afford to travel and live the life that we envision for ourselves, I might consider one or two more.

I've always wanted 3 maybe even 4, but this is likely our last. DH is fine with any number.

This is our 4th. But I’ve always wanted to adopt so I’m not ruling out being done forever. If we decide to adopt one day, it will be not any time soon.
