Tangentially related: A CA friend posted this article on FB a couple days ago. www.sacbee.com/news/nation-world/national/article154534379.html"Is California too liberal for you? Would you rather live with like-minded conservatives? There’s a solution: Move to Texas. That’s the mission of a new company called “Conservative Move,” a company started last month by Iraq War veteran and former U.S. Congressional candidate Paul Chabot." The article goes on about this guy "While campaigning for the 31st congressional district, Chabot mailed “Terrorist Hunting Permits” to people who donated $99.17 to his campaign." Lovely.

Non-Texan here, so feel free to tell me to shut up, but isn't Abbott the same one who didn't shut down the crazies who thought President Obama was deploying troops to take over the state when the military was just conducting exercises? Or was that a previous governor?
Also, GD bathroom bills. I worry we're headed that way here.

Taking peoples money to move friendly voters to his district? Sounds legit. To be fair he didn't win but maybe a future run? I am horrified by the bathroom bills and the open season on reproductive health and rights. What can we do in a state we don't live in, besides donating and volunteering at organizations fighting these things?

Also on the agenda for the special session is sunset legislation, basically renewal for several state agencies, including the Texas Medical Board which licenses doctors, which the Texas leg has not managed to get it together to renew, meaning we could see the end of medical licensing for doctors in Texas in 2018. www.texastribune.org/2017/05/28/sunset-press-conference/ That seems important, no?

My husband keeps bringing up Texas as a possibility and I have so many reservations about it. It would be Austin, though, and seeing Abbott's hatred of that city must mean it's not a bad place. Austin has its problems, but it's very liberal and has a booming economy. It is frustrating being at the whims of the rest of the state, though. I felt this way about the area we lived in in NC. I don't think I could do it long-term, so you have my sympathy/respect.

It's really annoying how California has become the symbol of everything conservatives *don't* want. Abbott's comments, for example, or the anti-Ossoff campaign ad running in Georgia's 6th right now calling him California's congressman.
Oh, you don't like California? The sixth largest economy in the WORLD? Land of natural resources and abundant beauty? A state covered by rich and fruitful farmland? A state with some of the strongest laws protecting workers' rights?
Yeah, sure you don't like California. It's not envy or anything. Methinks the lady doth protest too much.
Assholes.

Yeah, I was feeling super raged about that bill this morning especially since I have a loss history and am in first tri. I'm going to get nipt drawn next month and if something bad results from that or the anatomy scan will I potentially need to go out of state to have a choice. I mean I'm glad I have the resources to do so and I know others don't have that luxury but still the whole thing makes me sick. And WTAF to that statement about Austin. DH and I went there for the first time a few weeks ago and loved it.

I hope you never do, though.
