Anyone venturing outdoors for gardening yet?
We have had some killer weather here the last couple days. Time was pretty limited, but I was able to thin out my seedlings and starts (beets, kohlrabi, garlic, onions, and mixed greens). I haven't done any indoor seedlings, will probably just direct seed and plant starts in the remaining room I have.
What's going on in your garden?

I built my raised bed and filled it with dirt last weekend. This weekend I am going to work in some fertilizer and in a few weeks I'll put in some beets and carrots to start. Out last freeze date is 4/15 so I can't do a full transplant until then.

We haven't started planting yet, but we did our neighbor to help break up an old patio so we could instead have this great space to plant! I am very excited!

I’m just curious because I’ve checked ours on a few sites and I see some that do high, moderate and low probability of frost after a date but some variety between the dates.

We are clearing out the overgrown beds every weekend (slow going with the kids underfoot but they love helping). We also found a bunch of planter boxes made for the rails of our large deck up in the eaves of our little outbuilding, so I'm excited to see if we can get those installed. We set up a little play kitchen under one of the big rhododendron bushes so I'm going to try to find some little solar twinkle lights on Amazon and magic that up a bit more.
Our main efforts this year will be a better container gardening set up for me on the deck (herbs and veggies) and planting wildflowers in the garden beds. I want some that are designed for pollinators and some that are deer hardy. I've found a local blend of each so I'm pretty happy!

I have some sprouts in the garden. I think they are males but I’m not sure because I sowed them a couple months ago? I have to go back and check my notes.
I also have peas coming up and my garlic is looking good. Next weekend I’ll restart seeds in the greenhouse.
What else? I potted up some pansies and put steer manure on the empty garden beds. I’m so eager for spring! ETA lol KALES not males. 😂 Stupid autocorrect

My chives are up. Silly things. It's going to snow the next two days. I have two raised boxes, an herb garden, a tomato patch, and a low maintenance flower garden on the side. I was thinking of doing wildflowers in one raised box because I'm nervous about keeping up with everything now that I have two kids.

I've been wanting to make something similar for my kids but was holding off because of the potential renovation. Now that we've moved instead I can do it this summer.

We had to leave ours at our old place because they were buried in the snow and I'm missing them right now. I looked forward to early chives on my boiled potatoes each spring.

The kitchen top was a value village find ($6.99!) and I just propped it on top of two logs. The little adirondack chair we already had. The bunting banner is made from some rough twine and some repurposed linen from pants I split up the bum. The shelves are made of this strange thick bark I found in the forest. I think that's about it! The cut logs we had on hand haha.

My camellias are blooming...always a sign spring is here. Well, this one is actually my neighbor's, but 80% of it hangs in my yard. In a couple weeks I will be cursing it, when it drops ten bargzillion blooms.

SO did some repair work on our garden boxes, which are rotting out after about 9 yrs. Onions are doing well. I thinned out the kohlrabi and weeded the mixed greens. Have been having some killer salads the past couple weeks! I need to get.to the garden store and get some seeds and starts.

It's going to snow again today. Ugh. I should start planning my additional raised bed and order some seeds...

I pruned my raspberry canes and euonymus today. My neighbour has a strawberry patch that has spread to my property so there are plants all over my backyard that the kids are excited about. It was nice to get outside even though it's still pretty cold.
I've watered my peat moss starter pellet things and will start planting my seeds indoors tomorrow. I also need to find a source for organic straw, it's proving to be more difficult than I thought.

I have some radishes, kale, spinach, and a pretty little chard coming up in the bed I planted a couple months ago! Oh and the snap peas are taking off.
Yesterday I harvested leeks, and a few nights ago we had fresh arugula with dinner. Both of these have grown weedy in my garden since I planted them several years ago.

yoginikiki did your peppers ever sprout? I'm having issues. Yes...the chili peppers took FOREVER and are slow slow slowly growing. Some are just germinating now and I started them way back in the beginning of Feb. Those are for sure giving me the most trouble. I replanted my sweet peppers one per pot a few weeks ago instead of the recommended two per pot and those are doing much better than the ones I started way back. They seem to grow to a certain point and then get stuck. At this point I am just fertilizing using a all purpose fertilizer tea since I really don't want to up-pot before transplanting/hardening off. I might have to though seeing as we are looking at two more snowstorms and pushing back the frost date. (zone 6b - CT) My issue may be space related at this point.

Oh, and I noticed some of the seeds I started in pots that fell over in my flimsy greenhouse have sprouted! Tomatoes, peppers, and echinacea. So that was a nice surprise.

I just spent a few days emailing with Baker Creek to talk thru what I had been doing...verdict is they are sending me new seed packs.

starbuck, huh. I also got my seeds from Baker Creek. The ones that are giving me the most trouble are the thai red chili peppers. Everything but the peppers have been coming up like crazy. Must have been a bad seed saving year?

Must have been a bad seed saving year? I have read that chili peppers are slow growers generally. Perusing some gardening boards on my Google search, it seems fairly common that they grow slowly compared to other crops. But my Spanish mammoths (sweets) didn't come up, either, so I can't explain that. I did jalapenos and the mammoths.

So the guy at Baker Creek isn't just replacing my pepper seeds...he's sending my entire original order again. I'm kind of blown away by that.
I reread our conversations like worrying I misled him but no I was pretty clear everything else was doing great. He's just decided to go above and beyond.

I have heard this sort of thing from other Baker Creek orderers as far as customer service....I am glad to do business with people who operate this way!
