Can we talk about state primaries here, or should I make another thread? In Illinois over here... state primary coming up! Curious for thoughts on Democrat for governor. I’ll talk with you- on Governor and also some other stuff. Like AG. DC4RENATO!

Some days I wonder like what will be the nail in the coffin for Trump?
Will it be Stormy? Or obstruction of justice charge? Perhaps collusion? Financial crimes? A well done steak?

I already told H we're going to have to figure out a way to afford private school if this guns in classrooms thing takes off. Or I'll homeschool. I hate when people flippantly say things like, "I'll just homeschool" but I already have to spend enough time worrying about my babies' safety at school (and everybody else's babies). I will not stand for making them LESS safe.

I'm really struggling with Devos and guns in the classroom. I taught for 9 years in high poverty areas before staying home with my daughter. I can't think of a single person I worked with that I would have wanted to be armed. My job was to teach children. If I wanted to be a law enforcement officer I would have studied to do that.
That money could go to smaller class sizes, something that has been shown to help close the achievement gap. But since she can't be bothered to even visit classrooms in these areas or actually read any research on methods that help children's achievement I shouldn't be suprised.

Here is a perspective on DeVos that I share. It's a tweet from @breenewsome, the woman who tore down the Confederate flag in Charleston: Describing Betsy DeVos as incompetent misses the larger reality that her purpose is to undo the civil rights movement as far as education is concerned, just as Carson is at HUD to undo the movement in housing & Sessions is doing likewise in the justice dept They aren't mutually exclusive! One can be a bad actor and totally incompetent at the same time. See also: everyone in this administration.

@jboogie,we're very fortunate to live in the school system we do. The idea of sending my kids to private school has never even crossed my mind bc I was a public school teacher and I really believe in our county school system (which is not meant to be a slam against public school teachers who send their kids to private schools. There are numerous reasons that a family might make that choice).

It’s galling to admit but DeVos has actually been very successful at this in Michigan.

There's actually a large homeschool community in our area. And a bunch of coops. So yeah we could definitely start one. You do science, I'll do language arts.

I'm down to discuss IL gubanatorial politics. I'm backing Biss, but seeing a shit town of JB signs. I don't think he has the experience we need right now, and a hell no to Kennedy.
Also, hi! I've been buried under work the past couple of weeks but I've been following along and titting.
I'm trying to figure out who's best for IL district 13, because we want Davis gone!

One thing that gives me some peace is that most of our county is pretty liberal so the teachers would RIOT if they were asked to have guns, and I feel fairly confident the community would provide similar blowback against such a policy.

I thought half the point of arming teachers was to make bad guys so scared they wouldn’t dare shoot up the school? 🙄 I'm pretty sure arming teachers will be the death knell on public schools. I will homeschool, start a coop with neighbors, or something. IDK. But I won't send my children to a school where a teacher has a gun. I will also try to help my neighbors who don't have the option to homeschool themselves. Because you know the people left in the public school will be the ones without any other choices.

It’s galling to admit but DeVos has actually been very successful at this in Michigan. Has anyone listened to the This American Life about DeVos? I thought it was both fascinating and infuriating. The main thing I took away from it was that she doesn't believe in a robust system of public education. She really does value "saving" one kid from an underperforming school by moving them to a charter or using a voucher to fund private school (to the detriment of other students) over improving the system in a way that all students benefit. She seems very ready to just write off any students left behind. It's so fucking ridiculous to have someone who doesn't even buy into the concept of public education leading the DOE.

I also have a serious issue with this. If you found out the school you send your kids to was going to start arming teachers, would you change schools? If I could, yes. Not everyone has a lot of choice. Exactly. So it's basically going to completely recreate a de facto segregated school system in some parts of the country.

Hey SHS is up We're going to harden schools.
Because it will make the transition to prison that much easier.
Next week the Crown Prince of Saudi is visiting. We want to strengthen ties to them.
Also 45 is taking his first trip to Peru and Columbia next month. It highlights his desire to do.....something. set up another dictator prolly

Jonathan Karl: POTUS said he wanted to raise the minimum purchase age on assault rifles. Why did he flip flop?
SHS: We're doing things that have bipartisan support right now.
JK: Is there ANYTHING in this proposal that the NRA opposes?
SHS: they don't like the age limit change
JK: Yeah but that's not in the actual policy
SHS: POTUS can't just create federal law (except when he does it through EO's?)

LOOK 45 still has age limit in his plan, but we're really not pushing it because the NRA peed on him so he momentarily forgot what he said.
why is he creating devos commission less than 24 hours after mocking blue ribbon commissions (see above answer)

It's Obama's fault that there's gun violence.

The dude in front of him made my exact same face.
