I don't get the divorce hiding assets thing. Mueller can just subpoena for past financial records?
If they're going to do something illegal and not respond to a subpoena then they'd just do that as a married couple?

The idea is that if they divorce now, assuming Vanessa has no criminal liability, she gets to walk away with half their money and it won't get tied up in legal proceedings, even if Don Jr. goes down. It's a way of protecting her and the kids' financially, not a way of getting around Mueller. Got it. I was understanding it more as people saying that it was a cover-up of some sort. That makes sense though...they don't seem like a family who let their ex-wives go off with their money amicably. |

I googled this because this was something I was wondering about, too. Spousal privilege applies to any time in which two people are married: defensewiki.ibj.org/index.php/Marital_Confidences_and_Spousal_Testimonial_Privileges So if you are divorced, you still have privilege for the time in which you were married. And even if you are still married, you don't have privilege for the time before you were married. Which means it makes even more sense that Vanessa has a defense attorney for a divorce lawyer.
