Morning!
We're having crazy weather over here. I asked my aunt to pick up ds from preschool, because I felt it was dangerous to be on a bike with two kids.
I was supposed to work tonight, but my coworker called me saying that she didn't thought it was necessary and that she'd call me at 18.30 if she needs me, keeping my fingers crossed she doesn't call.
I got ds school photos, he looks shy & beautiful and in no way like the happy little boy I know and love, so I'm a little bit ambiguous about them, if you know what I mean, but I'm going to get them all of course 😉.
Hope all sick moms and kids are feeling better today!

My same aunt who used to have the bears had a set of raccoons who visited her everyday. They'd knock on her back door and hold their hands out for cookies. If she tried to give them something healthy, like carrots, they'd get pissed, throw it, and chitter chatter bitchily until she ponied up with the cookies. This is amazing.

Also, maybe I'm late to the party on this, but I was at Target yesterday and picked up a swimsuit for C from the Cat and Jack line. It's cute enough, but what really sold me are the snaps down below, which make diaper changes, etc. so. much. Easier. I have never seen this feature on a baby bathing suit before and had been wondering why it wasn't done. So sadly, there goes my million-dollar idea, but I am glad to know this product exists! That's brilliant. I've never seen that before. This is why I always bought 2 pieces for B when she was in diapers. Yea that's right I said 2 piece!

flamingo and others in warmer climate areas. What do babies wear in the winter? My sister is expecting a baby in November and I want to send her a few cute things, but wasn't sure if we're talking pants/long sleeves or rompers and bathingsuits! ETA: I should specify, she's in FL.

The runner is going to hate me today. I'm going to have him take boxes offsite and I think its going to be HOT. This wouldn't happen if they would just take initiative and do it themselves without me asking. I mean they have a 5x5 wall of boxes behind their desk right now, so it's not like they didn't know they existed. #srynotsry

When DH was in middle school a family of skunks made their home under his family's deck. It took forever to get them out (I didn't ask how) and the place was left stinking for months. The smell got into their house and Dh said he smelled like a skunk for a month. He is now terrified of them and if he sees one, even driving, he wigs out and gets as far away as possible. inthekitty, I want to be your aunt. Snacking with raccoons sounds like the best afternoon!

All this talk of wild animals and I realized I forgot to share my story last week. I was running home on a trail and came around a corner to find a brand, spanking new deer with an adult. The little one was still finding its legs and literally collapsed about 15 feet in front of me and I had to stop and give it time to gather itself and wobble off into the woods. So damn cute.
We also have coyotes, bob cats, bears and snakes, so I'll take close encounters with a deer anytime.

Also I think we had our annual snapping turtle visit the other morning, because I found a large, round hole in my garden and a faint track in the grass towards the stream. It's a week or 2 later than usual, but we almost always have one laying eggs in our yard.

They had to open the air vent back up in my office. There's no way to shut it and they had it blocked, but the block shifted and then it was unbearably loud vibration. Space heater is back.

One of my favorite things about my kid's school is they are very laid back about pickup and drop off times. It may have influenced my decision to return next year.

ETA: I should specify, she's in FL. We do get some cold weather, probably more so in the northern part of the state. (I know, I know, everyone is laughing at our definition of 'cold'!) Long sleeves/pants are definitely appropriate. I had a couple heavier outfits for C, but it was a fairly warm winter so most days I just did cotton pants, long-sleeve top or onesie and socks. I'd add a cardigan if it was really "cold". Typically no need for coats, etc. If they're in S FL it might be a bit warmer but it will still cool off there, 60s-low 70s. Layers are good...maybe short sleeve top, pants, and sweater/cotton 'jacket' for first thing in the morning or at night.

Thanks, flamingo!! Very helpful. I figure our "warm" will start to feel cold for them the longer they're out of Michigan as well!

My current dilemma fits in perfectly with today, MH and B painted a birdhouse from the dollar store last year and before he left MH nailed it to the fence. I was laughing because I was like, this thing looks terrible and like heck any birds are going to use it. I was wrong. There is a family of chickadees that have taken up residence. There are at least 2 babies and I spend more time than I'd like to admit just watching Mama go to and fro getting food for them. I love them. The problem is that I have a tree stump that needs grinding right below it so i can sod the area. I'm terrified that if a company comes out they will scare these babies to death. So now, I will have this awful looking dirt/stump spot until these babies have left. Anyone know when chickadees grow up and leave the nest?

vino I would estimate 2-3 weeks before they are able to leave the nest on their own.

As we were driving to preschool, I asked V what he thought he would be doing today.
"I'll play in a ball pit and then I'll take a nap."
There's no ball pit at preschool nor is there a naptime.

Mistrust of raccoons is necessary you guys. Far too many of you are falling victim to their charm. Opposable thumbs. Opposable thumbs.

Awww, poor H. I hope he feels better soon! And that you are able to get some rest today as well tgrimes ! So the Usborne book lady talked me into having a FB party. I know some of you have some of their books, if you want me to invite you, let me know, otherwise I won't bother any of you with the invite. Don't want to be a pest. I just looked through a third of their catalog and they do have some cute books. I know we are all avid readers to our kids. I already get a free book and $25 credit, so I'm going to make my wishlist today while I don't feel like working! I'd be interested, but I don't think I am facebook friends with most of you. I am in the N13 group. Can you invite through that?
