I have a solly wrap, but I want to buy a ring sling. I’ve had recommendations for the Tula, maya, and Sakura bloom, and I can’t figure out which I prefer. Anyone have preferences for the brands or fabric types?

I looooooove babywearing but I hate ring slings. I would look on the BST and find something really soft/well loved. It’s so much easier to get a good, tight fit that way.

Oh no why do you hate ring slings? The solly is nice but it’s not a quick on/off, at least not for me yet, and I’ve heard the slings are pretty user friendly for new babywearers. What other types do you recommend?

What other types do you recommend? Have you tried pre-tying the solly and then tightening once you get to your destination? I really liked my k’tan for quick, easy trips. I’m also looking at a Sakura bloom scout (but they’re a little pricy) or a Tula free to grow carrier (my friend has one I’m going to try before investing.) DD was also fine in her ergo with a rolled up receiving blanket under her butt until she was a little older. I liked my girasolnbedt but that’s not going to solve your quick-ups problem LOL. I don’t like ring slings bc I feel like one of my arms is always semi-strapped down. It just wasn’t comfortable for me and it never felt totally handsfree. I think I’m in the minority though - a lot of people really like them and find them easy to use. Do you have a BWI group close by to try out the different slings?

Leaf 🌱 I will try pre-tying the solly! I think I just need more practice with it. Not sure if L really likes it yet. Sometimes I wonder how he can breathe in there, but I have to pull it up around his head since he can’t hold it up yet. I can see what you mean about the ring slings and being truly hands free. I was just looking on fb and found a babywearing group that meets once a month and has a bunch of different slings to try out. So I will probably try to go to that sometime, although I’d have to take L and I’m not sure how soon I’m ready to take him out in the germy public.

I love ring slings and we used them a lot when DS was tiny and for errands or just snuggles when he got older. One thing to note is that ring slings have different types of shoulders. Gathered is my favourite because you can spread the fabric over your shoulder as much as you want.

I loved my boba with my first so that's what I plan on using this time. It was seriously a nap miracle.

I love my ergo wrap (but yeah takes a little while to put on) but I love love my Tula carrier. So comfy! Bought the infant insert so I will probably mostly just use that. Hands free.

We have a BWI group here that will advise and help you fit different carriers. If you’re a member you can check out carriers a month at a time. Personally I like my boba wrap for little bitty babies. Once they’re a few months old I have a well loved ergo that I use all the time. I wear my toddler/preschooler on my back regularly. Mostly it’s containment, but my middle LOVES going “up” and thrives on the physical contact.
