I feel woefully unprepared this time. I just have no motivation to do anything
I plan on using the birthing center in the hospital, and they require a birth plan. I have to turn it in when I do an appointment with them at 36w. All the stuff I'd like to do is already standard (delayed cord clamping, immediate skin to skin, etc), so I don't really know what to write

Also, I ordered a silicone hand pump that has been highly recommended and I may toss that in my bag as well.

I find it interesting too, but I'm excited about the facility so I'll figure out something to write down

My BFF had a C-section in the same hospital 2 years ago, so I was asking her about it yesterday. Apparently they get dad to do skin to skin after a C, and then I do it as soon as we're in the recovery room, so that's okay with me as long as he can be close so I can still be a part of it. She said they also start breastfeeding as soon as you're in recovery, which is another thing I wanted.
When we were at Walmart we saw some short sleeved nighties with a zipper in the front, so I'm thinking I may pick up one or two. I really don't want to be in a Johnny shirt the whole time.

Someone from my other BMB recommended it and I purchased it last week. That's a good idea to bring that, it might be better than the hospital pump. ETA: I should have kept reading, I see that it's the same one.

I used a hospital pump the first time and didn't care for it; and took my Medela from the insurance last time, but it was so bulky. This one is so small that I'm actually more worried about forgetting it than finding room, lol.

I feel super unprepared like I have no list for a bag or birth plan. With ds I had all my “plans” but they didn’t end up working out so I will just be going with the flow this time lol.

I hadn't thought about bringing my pump.

I am 0-2 with babies not latching for unknown reasons outside of they're lazy (quite literally what I was told by a couple of LCs, a couple nurses, the ped, etc), so I assume I'll need to pump this time as well. But also, who knows... Maybe third times the charm?

They had me pump last time to try and stimulate production and because V wasn’t nursing well initially (I put the little I had into a syringe and fed that to him). I think it’s person and situation dependent.

I was on magnesium while in labor due to high BP so that made her sleepy and a lazy eater.

Gotcha. Sounds like maybe it's a good idea to bring just in case.

Just FYI, both hospitals I've delivered in gave me a manual pump and provided an automatic pump for my room.

Yes. Mine had a hospital grade pump to use while I was there. I think the Medela Symphony. So if you don't take yours with, you should be fine.

I talked to my OB about whether or not I need to go through the tour again and she said that only thing that has changed since I had my son was that immediate skin to skin and delayed cord clamping are now common practice. I did the immediate skin to skin last time but not the delayed cord clamping. I said that both were fine with me.
Next time I am going to talk to her about not wanting to be in labor forever and ever.

I have got to get started on making my list for the hospital bag. (lots of good ideas in this thread). I'm just planning on re-using my birth plan from DD which was geared towards a med-free birth with as little interventions as possible.

I had a two page birth plan last time because it was the one given to me at hypnobabies. The nurse I had (whom I loved) joked that she always sees these moms with big ol long birth plans coming in where nothing goes according to plan. Out of everything I literally got a vaginal birth, skin to skin and delayed cord clamping (which I am now convinced contributes to her jaundice 😑) out of the million things in my list. So this time it’s anything goes and I’ll just decline interventions as I’m able. I’ll likely be induced at 37 weeks this time so I have minimal control as to what I get anyway. For hospital bag, everyone has listed anything you could possibly need. I did bring massage balls I bought on amazon which were nice to have during labor. I’ll be bringing those again. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0751W12N4/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1521104569&sr=8-2-spons&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=massage+balls&psc=1

getzystark, how did you use the massage balls during labor? For back pain? I just ordered them because I'll try anything that'll help. Also, just curious, how does delayed cord clamping contribute to jaundice? DS was jaundiced, but he had immediate cord clamping.

Yes DH rolled them on my back during labor and also used them some for counter pressure. The tennis balls in the nylons work better for that though. www.mamanatural.com/amazing-back-massager-for-pregnant-women/. I can’t stand this mama natural person but she’s the first video that popped up. For the prolonged delayed cord clamping (until it stops pulsating), the idea is that since baby gets that rush of blood heavy in iron, the liver can’t quite clear it fast enough and it contributes to jaundice. americanpregnancy.org/labor-and-birth/delayed-cord-clamping-risks-benefits/It’s becoming more common practice I believe to do just delayed which is like 1-3 minutes.

getzystark that’s interesting, V was jaundiced and we did delayed cord clamping. I can’t remember how long it was, though I think it was longer than 3 minutes. I’ll have to ask about that at my next appt.

With DD I had a vaginal birth but this one is measuring big (like really big) so I now have a scheduled c-section. For those that have had a c-section did you buy any type of binder/wrap for after? They're expensive and I'm not sure if it's a worthwhile investment or not. I feel like a FTM again because this is all so different than my first pregnancy!

The hospital gave me one (well I asked for it). It wasn’t the best thing in the world but I wore it a little. Honestly I didn’t wear it more than a week or two and only a few hours at a time, it was hella uncomfortable
