I'm looking forward to buying our dog a winter sweater. She's going to rock it.

I started browning some ground beef on the stove top last night. Ran up really quick to grab something then heard a boom. Came downstairs to find the dog knocked the pan off the stove. The meat was being covered my the pan.
I didn't have enough time to defrost any more meat so back on the stove it went.

When I sleep, I carefully arrange myself so that no skin is touching any other skin.
Even going so far as to tuck my shirt between my boobs.
NO SKIN

P is moving up rooms in daycare. They ease them in, so for the next 2 weeks, she spends some time in the new room as well as her current room. There is another girl in her class, just 3 days older than her, who is also “Penelope.” They actually were in our old daycare together, and then when we switched, I talked with the other P’s mother and they ended up switching too. So they’ve always been in the same class, but our Penelope has gone by “Poppy” so it’s never been an issue.
So in the new classroom, as a policy they use their “proper”names. Her first day in there, P had no idea that her name is actually Penelope. She was totally confused and would just point to the other P when they would say the name. So, we had to spend some time recently teaching DD her actual name, at 2 1/2 years old. Whoops! Now she is telling everyone, “Poppy’s name is ‘Nelope!”

coconutbacon, I don't get it. If she goes by Poppy 24/7, then why does the school get to choose what she is called? I feel like the flame is actually toward the school, not you.

DH has a nickname and has never once been called his proper name because it is letter by letter exactly the same as his last name lol. He would have feelings about being called his name on paper

Somehow I missed this and this is neither unpopular or flameworthy but it’s a confession.
a small fitness group (maybe 600) I’m in on Facebook kind of broke off from a larger fitness/weight loss group (that cost money) and things have sense imploded. The small group is accusing people of being moles for the larger group and some ppl are paranoid. People are being kicked out of this group for either being an actual mole or because they are believed to fe one. That’s the backstory and the short version. I can share the whole story if you want. Lol
Here’s the confession. One of the members of the smaller group was joking around to a friend in a extremely offensive and disgusting way. “Don’t make me (fill in the blank....rhymes with cape) you”. I reported the post and he was put on a 24 hr ban from fb. The kicker is that him (along with everyone but me) thinks Facebook has some algorithm for detecting when that word is used and immediately banning. No one thinks he was reported. The person did come and apologize and says what he said was distasteful so there’s that. I guess.

They said it’s a safety thing. They want the kids to be able to say their full names, I guess in case they got lost (not at dc, I assume)? I don’t care that much. I used to call her both names a lot, but eventually just went with Poppy. It was easier for her to pronounce and so many other kids immediately remembered it once Trolls came out, so everyone went with it. Also, it seems harder for them at dc since there are two strawberry blonde little girls, born just a couple of days apart, both named P. But, it’s their battle.

coconutbacon, I'm with shellyr, CestLaVie, that is a bit odd. Wouldn't it be safer to call the child by the name they respond to all the time? I mean, if you called me by my legal name as a child, I wouldn't respond at all, because that isn't my name, ya know? This is apparently my hill....

If they were singling my child out, I'd be raising hell. This happened to me in kindergarten– my teacher did not like how my nickname was spelled, and so insisted that I only use my full name– but there was definitely a Robert in the class who went by Bobby, am Anthony who went by Tony, etc. But in this case, it's a policy they apply universally in the room, for whatever reason, so I'll go with it. I mean, it *is* her name. And I love her name (her "proper" name and her nickname), or I wouldn't have named her that! Also I figure, when she's at home, she can know that I mean business if I say her full name.

Confession.
I've been dying to let this out. I've been under oath since Oct 3rd because I was in the jury pool for the United States federal court of Florida vs Noor Salman. She is the wife of Omar Mateen who is the shooter of Pulse night club.
I was officially released from duty today and was not selected to sit on this trial that could last 5 to 6 weeks.

RunsforWineandCarbs, Wow. So is the confession that you are relieved to have been released? Or would you have liked to have sat on the jury? Confession, I think it would be interesting to sit on a jury.

coconutbacon, I have to say I'm with the others on this one, and feel a ways about the DC enforcing this policy. It does not feel inclusive or family friendly IMO. And really, them blaming it on 'safety' issue. Like are they that concerned about losing children? I would think stricter guidance policies then. Sorry I guess I have some feels about this. For right now her identity is tied up with her name. You are way more patient about this than I would be.

If this was a different time of my life, I'd have loved to sit on this trial. But now with 2 littlest and an h who's out of town, this would be hard on me. It's federal court so no phones are allowed in. I'd have to ask my mom to be first point of contact for daycare and stuff.
I'm walking a,little lighter now that I don't have to worry about it or worrying about what is going on at work for 6 weeks. Or the very less pay I'd making.

I purposely named both my boys with names that would not easily translate into nicknames. I originally was just going to name P, “Poppy,” but then I thought she might want the option of a more serious name option, and I loved that Penelope is connected with artisanship (Weaving, textiles), so it felt fitting.
