I am starting a barre class at my (new) gym and I have such anxiety over it. I skipped today because I was not ready. I called the gym and asked what to wear and bring and she just said socks, not pure barre socks.
So what? Gym socks? Fluffy socks? Knee socks?
What do I wear? Shorts? Yoga pants? Leggings? Tight or loose top?
I hate new situations where I don't know what's happening. But I really want to try barre.

I hear you on the anxiety and I was in the same place a couple of months ago when I started going to barre classes. I get pretty anxious about stuff like this too but I'm so glad I pushed past it and now I go multiple times a week! The place I go wanted you to wear socks with the sticky bottoms but I've seen people at their first class wearing regular ankle socks. I'd wear leggings (people would be able to see up your shorts in certain positions) and a fitted tank or t-shirt. Good luck, let me know how it goes!

I second those clothing recs. People in my class are a mix of barefoot, regular socks, and sticky socks. If you do want sticky socks, they're less than $10 at Target or Amazon. I do barre A LOT, so I also found a pair of "barre leggings" at JCP that are long and go over your heel like leg warmers. I rotate between those and regular yoga pants with sticky socks.
Socks.

I love barre! Ihope you go and love it too!
I definitely felt like a newbie at my first class because everyone else seemed to know exactly what they were doing. But the moves were easy to follow and I ended up working too hard to be nervous anymore.

ironegg, did you take a class yet? I'm a barre instructor so I'm pretty partial to the classes.

I just saw a barre place opened up in my town. I've done some barre videos at home and I enjoy them, but I see they're $20/class. Is that typical?

That's about what they run here but they're less if you buy a package or membership. A lot of those studios will do first class/week free promos or monthly unlimited at a lower rate etc. Can you look on their website and see if they have anything like that?
