One day down...
I have a question for you all. Have the schools in your respective areas been receiving threats from students/former students that they are going to come "shoot up" the school? It is absolutely killing me that schools in our area have been receiving threats almost daily. I am just wondering if we live in an area of idiots or if this is happening elsewhere.
I am glad that the schools are taking the threats seriously. 3 people have been arrested already. But it's just sad/scary that this is happening.

That is so sad and shocking misspeansmama. Good on the schools for taking it seriously. I don’t think DD’s school has received anything similar but we are in another country.

@chair - it's so scary how commonplace this stuff has become.

It’s been happening a lot here too misspeansmama. Mostly at our high schools, but three in my area have closed as a result. It’s so scary! I hate that I worry for DS and myself. Something has to change.

I really can't wait until this school year is over. DS' pants are still coming home with tiny threads undone. A lot less messed up than they originally were but still not how he left home. Today especially were a pair that did not have any of these things on them. Still had about three small scrapes/threads pulled up in the same darn spot. I'm so freaking annoyed. Like I really don't get it. There is duct tape on the alleged problem spot of his desk so I don't even know anymore. Then he had sock day today. We bought him NASA socks because awesome & he loves NASA. He even had a matching shirt, he was super excited about it all. End of the day, I find out he has a hole in the sock (they are adult size so he wore them as knee high over his pants) because he got pushed down at recess. Every other day he's telling us how he falls or gets pushed. It's either him being clumsy or someone else. It really gets frustrating day after day. Like literally almost every day it's something. Another thing.. he sees the reading teacher for small group sessions. She gives them a reading pouch bag thing to take home. It gets left in the locker to come home each day except Friday. More days than not he forgets his. I have reached out to her to say if she could just tell him to put it in his backpack vs just the locker when she brings him back to class. She allegedly agreed. Multiple days he's forgotten. Like I'm done. When I sub I'm expected to do a billion things but his teacher also doesn't remind these kids to empty out their lockers at the end of the day. What more am I supposed to do besides going to pick it up at the end of the day myself? Like no. They're in 1st grade ffs, not junior high or hs. They need reminders. I'm just very annoyed this year & counting down the days.

I haven't heard of threats around here. I've been pretty terrified of sending DD to school lately, though. It's so frustrating. NamasteBirches in first grade they should get reminders. They're still in "early elementary." The kids shouldn't be expected to have the memory or attention span of a middle schooler.

I can't tell you how many times he didn't have his gloves, hat, sweater etc in his backpack bc it was left in his locker or classroom like it's ridiculous. Totally over it.

I know this isn't something that can be fixed overnight, but if everyone would just stop fighting with each other and work collectively for the greater good maybe we'd make some headway. I surely don't think it's solely a gun control issue nor to I think it's solely a mental health issue. I think they both go hand in hand and we need to do something about both. Not allowing psychiatrists/psychologists to refuse to take insurance I think would be the first step in helping people get the mental health help they need. That is an issue near to my heart and really pisses me off that doctors can choose not to accept insurance. It forces people who don't have the money to pay hundreds of dollars per visit to go without the care they need. It's total BS.
Sorry for the rant....

I agree misspeansmama. It's really ridiculous this is becoming so commonplace & that really nothing is being done about it. How many more mass shootings have to happen before we see change? It's insane.

DD's teacher doesn't remind them, either. Her mittens are clipped to her coat so I don't have to stress about that part.
