We are exploring this as we feel that a DE would cause too much undo tension in our marriage but see a lot of advantages with a donor embryo. Anyone explored this? It appears to be less than a round of IVF and less than traditional adoption and buying donor eggs.

**lurking, grad**
My friend was in the process of doing donor embryo until some craziness outside of that caused them to pause the process. They went with an agency in Florida because it was very inexpensive even they don't live anywhere close to there. I want to say it was around $8000 not including meds. They were matched with two sets of embryos and had information on how many embryos from those batches had resulted in live births. I believe they also had relevant health info as well. If you want, I can ask her for the name of the clinic. Good luck!

* lurking, grad* I recently saw the movie One More Shot (http://www.onemoreshotfilm.com/) on Netflix, about one family's infertility journey. They ultimately went with a donor embryo. The woman blogs here, and often about donor embryos: dontcountyoureggs.typepad.com/

We considered going this route, but for the specific reason why we are doing PGD, donor embryos aren't really an option for us. My RE wasn't comfortable with taking the 5-10% chance that it would be incompatible with me, and honestly after a friend of mine had that actual scenario happen to her (received an incompatible embryo - with thankfully a miracle ending), I wasn't willing to take the chance. They don't recommend thawing and testing, then re-freezing embryos in my scenario either. It cost my friend somewhere around $9k I believe.

I have red blood cell antibodies - I need to carry an embryo that has the same blood type as I do (specifically Kell-negative), or the baby can become very, very anemic. *TW* it's the reason for our 27w loss in 2016, and we have a 50/50 shot of any baby inheriting the blood type from DH. We are planning on donating the embryos I can't physically carry, eventually.

I will add that our backup plan is donor sperm and IUI, since I technically don't have any underlying fertility issues. Our RE is calling it male-factor infertility for the purposes of our insurance. Not that the insurance covers anything...

Not that the insurance covers anything... Oh, that makes sense. Perhaps they can do some kind of test to see if they can be prevented. I’m so so sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine. Hugs

Due to finances we skipped IVF completely as this was cheaper and thanks to an amazing and generous person through TB/TCF/whatever we call those places now, I am currently holding the most amazing gift of a baby now. Please feel free to reach out to me for more info!
