I thought it might be nice to have a place to put the things that are coming up in OB/midwife/etc appointments in these final weeks/months. Or am I the only one who gets all feelsy when she says, "so what do YOU want to ask me about this week?"

So this week my midwife and I talked about when to call her office (which has staffing 24/7 for questions/help).
Since this is baby #3, she wants me to call when contractions are 7 minutes apart lasting a minute, or when I get that real "oh shit" feeling.
Really. That's how she phrased it.
GUYS I'M SCARED.

I had prodromal labor with #2 and I'm scared it'll happen again. My midwife said if it does, to try to relax the contractions away, or try to make them turn into real labor.
So, like... massage, sleep, a glass of wine, etc.
or nipple stimulation, sex, etc.

DH keeps reminding me to ask about circumcision. This is our first boy and he's really concerned about it getting messed up and either too much or too little skin being taken off.

I realized my next 3 appointments are with midwives I don't like. So I'm pretty much not going to say anything for the next 3 appointments.

ovenrack, we talked about the same thing at my last appointment. She told me to page them as soon as I'm sure I'm having real contractions or my water breaks. She's making me think it's totally likely I'll have a precipitous, accidental, unassisted birth and that's scary AF. My first labour was just under 6 hours.

cornpop, that sucks. ovenrack, Um does it even work like that? How can you mentally stop or start real contractions. Maybe I'm new.

It definitely doesn't. I mean, I think she meant physically try to stop or start them. Like, do relaxation things to physically rest/calm down, or do the things people generally talk about to kickstart labor. NOTHING WORKS ANYWAY. I mean, I had prodromal labor for a week with M, but mostly in the evenings... I think... I've mentally blocked 85% of it.

ETA: I bow down to people that have it start and stop for days and weeks. I couldn’t sleep or eat and just walked target, my house, the neighborhood and begged poor DH to have sex with me. This time I’ll be bouncing on a yoga ball and using my pump instead.

Does bouncing on a yoga ball help to start labor? or is it just good once you're in labor?
Also, what size do I need to get?

sweetc129, I was wondering about circumcision too. DH was leaning more towards not wanting to do it, I was leaning towards probably doing it. But I have no idea on what questions to even ask about it.

My understanding is that sitting on it and rolling your hips and stuff like that can help baby drop down in your pelvis and get in a good position for birth. So good both before and during labour.

My OB is supposed to be REALLY good at circs so I’m pretty pumped not to have to worry about it, but the front desk staff warned me that if he’s not there for the actual delivery I should stay in the hospital until he’s on call or we’ll have to pay OOP (if we leave without it done) for it or wait until after he’s 1yo.

36 week appointment in the bag. She said baby is head down, I'm 1 cm dilated but not thinned. I'm supposed to call when contractions are regularly twenty minutes apart as a STM. Hehe. I haven't gained weight in a month but she isn't worried so I'm rolling with it.
I told her I was starting to hit the wall and she was just like, well no shit, you're 36 weeks pregnant. Haha.

From what I remember if it's not real labor if you do certain relaxing things it will calm your contractions down like taking a warm shower or bath. If it is real labor it will keep your labor going and possibly help you progress.

I think it helps baby move down into position but not necessarily starts labor. With DD1 I started bouncing on it around 38 weeks and once I was in labor I used it between walks.

My mom told me her labours were 6 and 4 hours.
I mean, the time gets shorter and shorter every time she tells me the story though. And mine was 17 with DS so I do wish she would shush about it.

With Dd1 I never called my doctor when I was in labor. I just labored at home for a while and went into triage to get checked. It was like 2am so I guess calling never crossed my mind but I'll probably just do the same this time once contractions become consistent.

sweetc129, I was wondering about circumcision too. DH was leaning more towards not wanting to do it, I was leaning towards probably doing it. But I have no idea on what questions to even ask about it. Be forewarned: if you start googling, you'll discover an insane number of inflammatory, agenda-driven "fact" sites about it. It's a conversation to have with your OB and your baby's pedi, go over the pros and cons of both options, and make the best decision you can. Our group here has been amazing with discussing touchy subjects respectfully, and I hope that will be the case if we dive into the circumcision debate, too. It got a little ugly on my first BMB. FWIW, I'm coming at this from the perspective of having DS1 circumcised, and planning the same for this baby.

I personally think circs are one of those decisions where there are reasonable arguments to be made either for or against, and there isn't a universally wrong decision to be made, just the right decision for your family. All the more reason to focus that decision on your healthcare providers (and where applicable, your religious supports). I don't remember asking my doc much about the actual procedure. They said he pretty much slept through it, so it didn't hurt him much. I do remember DH asking questions about caring for it afterwards as it healed.

We are already decided on getting him circumcised, we just want to make sure it's done properly. I hope to not start a debate, I see both sides of it and went back and forth but did ultimately let DH decide and felt strongly about it.

I have asked or will ask about: - a version for my silly breech baby - protocol/timeline if the version is needed but unsuccessful - any change to their “when to come to l&d” guidelines - delayed cord clamping and other delivery things (DNW an episiotomy, I’d rather tear) - opting out of cervical checks (my NP was in agreement that they are unnecessary and very supportive when I said I didn’t want them) - how long i have to stay at the hospital (DD was huge and had to have her blood sugar monitored) - at what point would an induction be scheduled if I’m overdue

I forgot but I should make myself a note to ask some questions of the pediatrician that comes to do it for ours. I don't want someone learning on my kid.

I wonder if I'll have to stay longer because of GBS+? Both my sis and SIL were positive and neither got there in time for antibiotics. My sister had to stay for monitoring but SIL didn't so I'm ??

OMG so idk why this reminded me but according to the Bradley Birthing book you just let the baby come out(while driving??) and hold them till you get to the hospital. Your H isn't supposed to speed or anything. And he acts like NO BIG DEAL. 😶
