Age/Grade: 8/2nd
What is your big kid's favorite subject in school? Least favorite? Math, Gym (lol), Science are his faves. All things related to writing and spelling are his nightmare.
What challenges do you run into with your big kid? He's stubborn (like his mom), full of emotions, and strong willed. And a people pleaser who wants to be included in everything. So sometimes, when he's not, it hurts.
What extracurricular activities does your big kid participate in? Baseball. He lives and breathes baseball.
When is/was your big kid's last day of school? Next Tuesday. He cannot wait. I don't blame him.
How will your big kid stay busy this summer? We have him signed up for several weeks of camp, a few weeks of VBS, and MH is taking him on a little MLB ballpark tour in August where they'll go to games at a few different stadiums together. Otherwise, just regular jaunts around the neighborhood with his buddies.
QOTW: What's your favorite parenting-related blog? I've been following Baby Rabies for several years now. Two of her kids are similarly aged to mine, so it's neat to relate to her as she goes through milestones that I'm facing with mine. She seems very real and down to earth, and she's hilarious, so I love following her adventures. Her latest is that they're selling their home and going to take their family on the road via RV for a year. While I would absolutely never EVER do that, I look forward to following their journey.

Age/Grade: 7.5
What is your big kid's favorite subject in school? Least favorite? Favorite is probably math and science. Least favorite is anything that involves too much writing.
What challenges do you run into with your big kid? L has been Dxed with ADHD and is on medication. He also has a severe tree but allergy that we recently found out about. He is pretty emotional but that can be characteristic of kids with his Dx.
What extracurricular activities does your big kid participate in? He is in karate and loves it. It helps him focus and work out some energy throughout the week.
When is/was your big kid's last day of school? This is his second week out of school.
How will your big kid stay busy this summer? I work from home so he will be chilling out with me for most of it probably vegetating in front of the TV watching movies and playing video games while I work. I signed him up for 3 weeks of summer day camp in the middle of break but since it is so freaking expensive we couldn't afford more.
QOTW: What's your favorite parenting-related blog?
I don't have one! I am going to keep an eye on this thread and get ideas!

Age/Grade: 6/Kindergarten
What is your big kid's favorite subject in school? Least favorite? Her favorite is math. I haven't heard her mention her least favorite yet.
What challenges do you run into with your big kid? She has got quite the independent streak. And I definitely want to encourage it, but I'm realizing it is hard for me to let go a bit. I cringe sometimes when she picks out her own outfits, or decides to style her own hair with 15 bobby pins randomly placed around her head. We've also been a bit challenged with some kindergarten style drama between a few of the girls in her class.
What extracurricular activities does your big kid participate in? We just finished up dance this spring. I don't really think we will be doing too much this summer besides swimming lessons. And she is signed up for a couple of free soccer camps that St. Paul offers. She mentioned wanting to try soccer or gymnastics in the fall.
When is/was your big kid's last day of school? Friday is her last day. She even has a little kindergarten awards ceremony happening tomorrow. I'm pretty excited about that.
How will your big kid stay busy this summer? Swimming lessons, a few soccer camps. Lots of time at the beach and splash pads. We are also going to try to visit several different state parks this year. This is our 3rd summer living in MN, so we have decided that we really want to explore the state outside of the cities.
QOTW: What's your favorite parenting-related blog? It's been a while since I've read a parenting blog, now that I think about it. I used to really enjoy Pregnant Chicken. I also used to read Food Allergy Bitch when I was dealing with anxiety over my daughter's peanut allergy.

Age/Grade: 6/1st (summer school class before "actual" first grade)
What is your big kid's favorite subject in school? Least favorite? Math, probably writing.
What challenges do you run into with your big kid? He's been a trip this spring. We're still dealing with a little bit of leftover attitude post-meningitis. I keep trying to remind myself that his brain went through a lot and I need to be patient.
What extracurricular activities does your big kid participate in? Right now, he's in ninja class. This fall, he'll play soccer.
When is/was your big kid's last day of school? The school year ended the Friday before Memorial weekend, but now he's in summer school until the 23rd. They pay kids to go here and get a jump on the coming school year's curriculum.
How will your big kid stay busy this summer? He'll keep having his ninja class, speech at least once a week, and at some point he'll go stay with my parents for a bit. He'll also be taking care of his new puppy we're surprising him with.
QOTW: What's your favorite parenting-related blog? I don't really have one anymore!

I don't have one This is really frustrating at this age. I just want to yell at him that he's now had six years of learning that if he calms down we'll help him. Tantrumming is such a waste of energy!
