Hello all! My son is 6 months old and exclusively breastfed (refuses bottle and pacifier). He’s been a great nurser up until about 2 weeks ago when he started to pull away while nursing, without unlatching. Like, he’s super tense, and pushing against me with his arms, and sometimes grunts and groans. I don’t know if there has maybe been a change in my milk supply, and he’s just frustrated? This happens basically every nursing session, except overnight, where he just falls asleep nursing. He does have reflux, but he is medicated for it already.
Any ideas on what’s going on with him? Thanks!

frustration with slower let-down? you could try hand-expressing a little bit before nursing to try to get a let-down going before he starts, or try a different position. you could also experiment nursing in a quiet, dark room so that there are less distractions and he's calmer. teething is another possibility. kellymom has a comprehensive list too: kellymom.com/hot-topics/fussy-while-nursing/

What medication is he on for reflux? My LO had reflux and food allergies (still does) and when it was particularly bad she would act like that too. If he is on zantac, that medication is very weight dependent and if he recently had a growth spurt, he may be due for a dose increase.

Overall his reflux seems to be well controlled but maybe it is bugging him while nursing. We don’t see the pediatrician for about a month, but I’m wondering if I should try to move the appointment up?

If he is still doing it I would try to get him in just to rule anything like that out.
