I'm dying to see it so bad, but I can't tolerate sitting for that long. Maybe by next weekend.

One thing I didn't expect from this movie that really struck me was that it has the best female characters of any Marvel movie thus far. They are strong, there are a lot of them, and they are all integral to the plot of the film. I'll even go so far as to say the writers and director did better for the women in this movie than the women in Wonder Woman. WW has Diana, who is a strong character, but the other women in the movie don't have much to do after she leaves Themyscira and really it's just a story of Diana and a bunch of men being surprised at how strong she is. The Women in Black Panther are not defined by their womanhood, and don't surprise people because they can do what a man does, they are just strong women who kick ass without apology. Danai Gurira as Okoye is my new favorite everything, and I really need Marvel to release more merchandise with her on it, because so far it is majorly lacking.

Loved it.
Spoilers ahead.
Loved the strong, smart women. It’s not Black Widow or Wonder Women; it’s the default. I liked how the villain had way more shades of gray than most Marvel villains; he wasn’t just bad. I found myself agreeing with him at times, so I was glad he had the nice moment at the end. I also liked the “twist” where the villain advertised wasn’t the main villain. The car chase scene was incredible.

It was so fucking good. I agree about the portrayal of women. I am so glad Danai is getting exposure outside of TWD fandom.
I was bummed that there couldn’t be a villain redemption story just because I love Michael B Jordan so much and wish he could be in more movies as like a second Black Panther type character lol.

Saw it last night and loved it as well. I thought everyone did a great job and +3577423683 to loving the strong female characters. They really stole the show for me. I hope they also are integrated more into future Marvel movies.

Ryan Coogler did a fantastic job. He put so much of the African diaspora in this movie. I loved how he portrayed Black women, strong and smart but also beautiful and loving. He tapped into the strained relationship between Africans and African Americans. The difference between Killmonger (colonized) and T’Challa (not colonized) was on front street, the pain and loss was heartbreaking. M’baku grunting when Agent Ross was talking gave me life.
I loved this movie my little girls need to see Princess Shuri being a scientist, Okoye kicking ass and Nakia trying to help the world. The one thing I didn’t like was at the end when T’Challa told the United Nations he wanted to share their technology with them. I thought he should share it with the African diaspora first before sharing it with colonizers. They have proven to be untrustworthy when it comes to natural resources.
“Guns......so primitive”. Yes, Okoye!

Yes, Okoye! I'm thinking they're setting up Wakanda to be an important part of Infinity Wars, so their technology being out there on the world stage makes sense. And I don't think you can share with the US (ie building their community center in Compton) and not tell the rest of the world. Hence why it was a credits scene, which usually sets up a future movie. I could be wrong in that prediction, but that was my take on it. But as a stand-alone, I totally see your point, too.

I think part of it was to show Wakanda taking a position within the existing power structure. Exerting their influence over the UN. IDK. Both cut scenes are definitely set ups for the future, be that Infinity Wars or Black Panther 2. And there needs to be a Black Panther 2.

We just saw it over the weekend and it was SO GOOD. I agree that the female characters were incredible. I need to watch it again. I'm gonna need there to be a second one, if only for more Shuri. Shuri is my favorite. I need more of her too!

Too bad Marvel can’t be a DisneyWorld. See you at Universal Princess Shuri. Disney owns Marvel. But Universal still owns the theme park right to Marvel properties. There's an entire section of one of their parks devoted to Marvel.

I would bet money that this was accomplished because of the following. 👇👇👇 #14 Visibility and inclusivity were important both on-screen and off: Coogler made sure a lot of the key department heads off-screen were African-American, women, or both.

Also, I'm all for Marvel outsiders coming to Marvel movies when it's such a bad-ass stand-alone movie, but dis was me today when 80% of the theater jumped up and left after the main movie was over (even before the first UN press conference bit!)

Coogler put the right people where they needed to be and listened to them. On a related side note, Ruth E. Carter needs an Oscar. I don't even care what other movies come out this year and how good their costumes are, she should get one, The End.
