We don't need corporations mmucking about with our roads and airports. And WATER. Someone remind me, how did the Flint water crisis happen? Wasn’t there something privately sourced in there or am I just imagining things?

I mean we dont need to look much further than Flint to know that we should not be leaving important things to a local level let alone a single corporation. Because money saving measures can be VERY bad when you dont have federal regs./oversight. Oh jinx. I pulled up my response box and went to supervise paint with water.

Someone remind me, how did the Flint water crisis happen? Wasn’t there something privately sourced in there or am I just imagining things? April 2014: In an effort to save money, Flint begins drawing water from the Flint River for its 100,000 residents, instead of relying on water from Detroit. The move is considered temporary while the city waits to connect to a new regional water system. Residents immediately complain about the smell, taste and appearance of the water, and raise health concerns, reporting rashes, hair loss and other problems. www.usnews.com/news/best-states/michigan/articles/2017-06-14/a-timeline-of-the-water-crisis-in-flint-michigan

5 states have applied for waivers to limit Medicaid coverage for childless adults ranging from 2-5 years. This is part of the "flexibility" the Trump administration/the GOP want to give states. ETA: As far as I can tell, there is no indication that there would be exemptions for people with disabilities or with chronic illnesses. So if you click through to the underlying article, it says “able-bodied” adults pretty specifically. I’m not a fan of that either but I think places like Think Progress are guilty of taking reporting and shading it heavily.

So I don’t think privatized but they left Great Lakes Water I believe. I agree that there should have been more oversight in the decision being made.

Tom Cotton is on the floor demanding empathy and citizenship for Dreamers. I feel like it's a trap. It is. Because they would reduce legal immigration by the number of Dreamers and he wants to reduce legal immigration.

Trump budget would defund PBS and NPR over a two year period:
PBS director fires back.
Dismantling the media - where are we on the dictator checklist?

Corker is running for another office? He is apparently reconsidering retirement and running to be Senator again. Honestly, if the choices in a GOP primary in Tennessee are him or Blackburn, I'll take him. Huh

Sorry, sort of non-related job rant. I'm supremely disgusted by the Medicaid lifetime limits. Medicaid serves some of the sickest populations of patients, so it's just incredibly devastating. But Trump is pro life.

I'm confused. WIC you purchase at regular grocery stores, right? Is that not the case in every state? I think some WIC programs are part food bank especially with formula. I cant speak from experience but I've heard of they 'gave' me X instead of them having to purchase. Here WIC works like food stamps - you use it at the grocery store on a select category of things. I'm pretty sure the "WIC office" is where you go to sign up, see case managers and access other programming.

Hm. So I don’t think privatized but they left Great Lakes Water I believe. I agree that there should have been more oversight in the decision being made. God, revisiting that timeline makes me completely irate. It actually goes back even further to decades of neglect and decay of the pipes and water system. It wasn't actually lead in the water itself, the lead was from the pipes. The new source wasn't properly treated with a phosphate that prevented pipe corrosion. So lead was being leeched from the pipes in a way that wasn't happening with the previous, treated water. Lead poisoning is so insidious and truly terrifying. So is racism and government negligence. Good thing we don't have problems with those these days...

I'm pretty sure the "WIC office" is where you go to sign up, see case managers and access other programming. Here they give you checks with the items and quantities printed on it. You have to ring up each check individually and you can’t go over what’s printed, like if it says 10 oz of cheese you can’t buy 10.25 and the items don’t always match what is packaged. Also It can be pretty embarrassing for the customer when they have the wrong item. I feel awful when they are apologizing But I know of some who have been sent from the office with specific items.

In IL I believe a WIC office will issue breast pumps but no other food items.

I've noticed at Kroger/king soopers they have "WIC eligible" tags near the price on grocery items. I think they should do that everywhere.

Important note of context on the Sessions thing yesterday. Anglo-American is a legal term. Thanks, dc. I was running around trying to take care of little people yesterday, but wanted to note that it is often a reference to common law legal systems. I have run across it in linguistics, too.

dc2london, thanks for asking. DDs 1+2 are over the plagues they've had and are back at preschool, now DD3 has the 104° fever plus barking cough and severe irritability. I keep pulling up the website of the beach hotel in Greece we'll be at this June and thinking: "by then everyone will be healthy, right?"
