Hi all, question : I'm nursing my 18mo DD. I have a nasty sinus infection and I was just prescribed Prednisone. It looks to be Cat C? The pamphlet from CVS specifically says it passes into milk but there is very little harm if any to baby. I can't get thru to Infant Risk. Still trying, but thought I'd survey the crowd. Have you taken it? What's your experience? I did tell the Dr I was nursing and he was very nice and helpful with that being a factor in our convo about my treatment plan. Everything else prescribed is bf -friendly. Thanks in advance! (Disclaimer : I am just looking for your experience if you've used it. Won't be making a decision based on any of this info.)

I haven't used it. I'd keep trying to get through to your doctor. I wouldn't think the doctor would have prescribed you something harmful knowing you're BFing, but yeah. I understand your hesitation.

I've used short rounds of prednisone for my asthma. No adverse effects on BF.

From the infant risk app, looks like the main concern is high dose for extended periods of time

So in the interest of making info freely available in, I did get an answer on the infant risk forums : They told me to wait 4 hrs at least before nursing for dosages under 40mg. I'm actually on 60mg today but we're splitting it out because I'm nursing. So, 30mg am and pm. I waited my 4 hrs and I'm nursing for nap time. Wanted to make sure i shared a) the experience with infant risk forum and b) the answer!

I haven't used it. I'd keep trying to get through to your doctor. I wouldn't think the doctor would have prescribed you something harmful knowing you're BFing, but yeah. I understand your hesitation. He concurred he was not an OB and did not have all the knowledge but that made it a point to pick what was best for me and still FF friendly and encouraged me to call infant risk to confirm. Which was an amazing experience also considering that I'm nursing a toddler.
