I spend so much time in my car that I listen to a lot of podcasts. I like new suggestions and talking about some of the more interesting ones so I am thinking we should have a monthly thread for random podcast talk. Hopefully other people will want to join me 😀

My wife's been listening to this cuz her coworker is one of the cops in it (a long time ago- she isn't a cop) and told her to. The first bunch are in Providence. Not sure if it moves elsewhere.

Atlanta Monster is really interesting. There's only 6 episodes total so far though.

I would avoid Up and Vanished. Payne Lindsey is scum (in my opinion).

Sword and scale was pretty good. It's true crime... Some of the stories are random (like the episode covers several cases at once) but I enjoyed it. DEFINITELY SKIP THE SECOND EPISODE!! TW**** they have a guy confessing to molesting a one year old. It's really sick. Seriously skip it. I wish I had this warning

I won't speak for joy but my impression of him by the end was that he had a huge ego and was patting himself on the back for solving the case. He was basically saying that without him the case wouldn't have been solved. I also have a vague memory of him talking with the girlfriend I think and getting a really bad feeling from him. Can't exactly remember why, I should listen again.

I forget exactly what he was saying but it was something like “WHY would someone do something like this???” And she was like “well I dont know. I didn’t do it. He did.” And Payne like would not let it go. Kept asking her why. Like she had anything to do with it. It was weird.

Can't exactly remember why, I should listen again. Yes. A lot of this. His “reporting” on Tara’s case very much became about him. His entire reason for even starting to look into the case was because he wanted a podcast to make a name for himself but he blurred the line and then went entirely over it. Listen to the episode when they had a press conference and made an arrest - it was his feelings, his joy, etc. Not one word about Tara. He doesn’t give a shit about her, just getting famous. I have a further theory about who was arrested and what motivated the girlfriend (tip) to come forward that I won’t get into here because it’s been awhile since I’ve reviewed the info and I don’t want to say something factually incorrect, but the whole thing makes me feel icky about Payne. If I have time, I’ll review the facts tomorrow and get back to this thread. Every time he says “I’ve been working the Tara Grinstead case for two years...” I want to scream “you are not a cop, PI or trained person of any kind!” What’s crazy is that I listen to Sworn, which is a sister podcast to Up and Vanished and it knows its limits, is hosted by a criminal lawyer, and is well done. 🤷🏼♀️

Yeah it’s a bummer because I have heard he does some interesting stuff. But he sexually harassed women on the MFM FB page and has tried to threaten lawsuits against people on message boards when they criticize him, etc.

I just heard about Crimetown, they look at real organized crime in a different city each episode. I am starting it monday. I couldn't quit get into this one. Probably since I've been hearing about Buddy since I was a kid (grew up in RI). My SMIL's brother went to their live episode and I think asked a question that was kept in the podcast.

I love: -Wine and Crime (they pick a topic and discuss crimes that fit in it) -The White Vault (audio drama about a team that goes way up north, in Norway I believe, to a remote outpost to fix some stuff, and weird things start to happen. I really liked it) -And that's why we drink (true crime/paranormal stories) -The Black Tapes (but only season 1 & 2) -What Should I read Next (a book podcast)

I sit in an office all day by myself so I have a lot that I listen to. I just finished Crime Town which I didn't love, but was listening to it with a friend. I also listen to Unladylike, 2 Dope Queens, The Read, Pod Save America, This American Life, Throwing Shade, Yo, is this Racist, Therapy for Black Girls, Getting Grown, and recently finished Up and Vanished.
