Damnit, I never thought of our money situation once the Queen dies until people pointed it out upthread. It's going to be super weird to see anyone other than QE2 on my loonies and toonies. Charles will have a short reign though. He's already close to 70 right? He's 69. If he lives as long as his parents, he could reign for 25 years or more. So short by comparison to his mother's, but plenty long enough.

Assuming she passes in the next several years. Who knows, she could live to be 110 or something.

I see Kate wore very deep green to the BAFTAs. She looks great and it also seems like a very nice compromise on the whole “apolitical but supporting” stance. It’s such a dark green it could almost be black (and has black trim).

Obviously she is not in all black so there is going to be a lot of discussion on her outfit choice.

Of course, she’s not in all black so she hates women.

I just think people might be overestimating how much say she really has in some things.

I just think people might be overestimating how much say she really has in some things. Exactly. The royal family owns her. It’s not like she could have just not listened to them and left the house wearing black and no one would be the wiser. Everything they do is carefully controlled and calculated. I think she did the best she could given the circumstances. It’s not like it’s bright red. It photographs dark.

I like the dress on Kate. I also roll my eyes at the all black dress movement at the award shows. Maybe they should pay more attention to who they are giving ovations and awards to and worry less about what color dress someone is wearing.

1) She looks amazing. I wish I looked half that good two months from my due date!
2) I feel bad for her, there would have been outrage no matter what color she wore. I can't imagine being picked apart like that and not being able to defend myself.

I guess I'm not sure why "Times Up" would be considered political, and some of the other causes they lend their voices to -- mental health, armed forces, landmines -- are not? To me it doesn't seem like a political movement. (I'm not fired up one way or the other, just not really seeing the issue as to why she couldn't wear black, I guess.)
I do think she looks beautiful in that dress and color.

I can see both ways. They support causes, why not this one? The only thing I can think of is the wearing black is a “protest” and that is just not something she is going to be allowed to do. Hopefully (maybe) she can get involved with a charity meant to help the situation.

I don’t know if the dark green/black ribbon is a compromise, I just love it anyway.

That's as close to a black dress as they were going to let her get. The fact that it had a black sash feels like she was trying to participate as much as she could. She looks fantastic.

Does Will wear a wedding band? He never has. They even released a statement before they were married that he wouldn't because he doesn't like wearing jewelry. I don't think I've ever seen him wear anything beyond his watch and then the dog tags while he was in the service.

I do think she looks beautiful in that dress and color. This is the exact argument. I don't agree with the "that is the exact argument" thing...because unfortunately she was placed in a position where what she wore (I.e. - black or not) is going to give some type of statement regarding her being supportive of #timesup - which I view as a social and not political issue. I guess what I'm trying to say is that #timesup should not be politicized. And if there were people in the royal household telling Kate that she couldn't wear black, because of the supposed political implications...well, screw them. I love Kate, but I wish she had fought to make a point that #timesup defies political boundaries...and she should be able to align herself with it via wearing black. The fact that she didn't has me disappointed. I don't think she hates women or anything like that. I just am disappointed that William and Charles get to speak out regularly about environmental issues, which can also be tied to politics I suppose, but she's somehow not allowed to wear black to an event where virtually every other woman is wearing black to support a social cause. Hope that makes sense.

And we all think we make concessions for our in-laws, at least they don’t have final say on my wardrobe! It’s only an assumption that she even wanted to wear black. She very rarely has spoken out for anything regarding women (mainly just maternal health). The choice to wear a dress that might nod toward the movement may have been a conscience decision by her staff and not her. I don’t think it is fair to assume she was kept from making any kind of statement when we have no idea if she wanted to join in the statement.

We have women wearing black that are still working with predators Also while the sentiment is nice I wish people spent less time finding a great black dress to show they love women and actually do something to get laws changed

I love it as well. And I did not like her dress for the same event last year. I also love the emerald accessories.
