T was helping me with dinner and cutting veggies, which he does a lot, and he sliced his finger terribly. We had to get stitches and he is crazy traumatized. He is asleep now but even gelato didn’t cheer him up. We went to a restaurant in the neighborhood after the hospital and the server who knows us kept trying to cheer him up even. I feel like the worst.

Oh my gosh, don't beat yourself up, accidents happen. If you want to change things up for the future, I just got some kid-friendly knives from Curious Chef and they have been working well so far.

It happens. Hope he has a speedy recovery. Don’t beat yourself up about it. It’s just one of those things.

Ahhh, it happens! Don't beat yourself up. Hopefully he heals quickly and decides he likes helping in the kitchen again!
And, I mean, I stabbed myself in the thumb last week with a screwdriver and have cut myself multiple times in the kitchen....happens to everyone.

I'm sorry. Stuff happens. Dd1 had to have her eyebrow glued shut once if it makes you feel any better.

Hope he heals quickly. If it makes you feel better, I dislocated my daughter's elbow once.

It happens! I’m sorry he got hurt though. DS did something similar when he was younger and it didn’t deter him from wanting to help in the kitchen again. I hope he’s back with you in the kitchen soon.

I’m sorry he’s so traumatized. Just remember accidents happen and you didn’t let this happen on purpose.

Poor little dude Like everyone else has said, accidents happen. I won't tell you not to beat yourself up because I know you will anyway, but don't do it for too long, okay?

sounds like he just cuts... like a kid. This is NOT a reflection on you. Accidents happen in the best of circumstances.

Last week E was helping me cook her eggs like usual. I took the eggs off the burner, turned off the burner and started to butter her toast. She felt the toast and said “That’s hot” (but obviously not hot enough to be a problem for her to touch it). Right after that she put the entire palm of her hand on the just-turned-off burner of the stove. I was right next to her. She *knows* the stove is hot but clearly not that it would burn her. it happened in an instant. I felt horrible. (She will be 3 in May for reference).
It happens, give yourself some grace. Hope he feels better soon!

DS stuck his hand in a stream of coffee coming out of the Keurig the other day and got a legit burn. This stuff happens to the best of us. Hope he feels better soon. He will soon forget about it!

DS3 got stitches right after Christmas when I let him fall off a chair even tho I was right there supposed to be watching him. Within a day or so, he was totally over it and just excited about picking his bandaid every time I cleaned the wound. I hope your son heals quickly, too!

DS fell off the front porch when he was around 3 and busted up his forehead pretty good. I was standing right there, not holding his hand. He was fine, but that cut made me feel so bad every time I saw it. Kids are so tough, though. He'll be back to normal faster than you can imagine.

Definitely happens to everyone at some point. I know it sucks when they hurt themselves and you feel responsible, but don’t beat yourself up. I think it’s great that you let him help cook!

I have scars on my fingers from cutting myself chopping as an adult so it happens. Wishing him a quick recovery.

Thanks guys! Love tits for all the solidarity. He seems better this morning and was excited to pick one of my scarves to use as a sling.
