With pink eye- is the white of the eye always pink or no? DS (3.5) has a cold and for 2 days, under his eye (like the area people get eye bags) is red and puffy. Lots of watering which is causing some crust. But the actual white of the eye looks fine. He hasn't been rubbing it like it itches or anything. I really don't want to take him to the ped and potentially expose him to flu germs. But I know if I call the ped, they'll tell me to bring him in "just to be safe."
Eta: last time he had a cold, so like 2 weeks ago, the same eye did this but not as bad.

It is probably just part of the cold.

I think the white of the eye is always pink with pink eye. I’d assume it was the cold. Maybe do an eye wash if he’ll let you just in case there’s something in there causing irritation, but I would think that would cause redness of the actual eye too.

It is probably just part of the cold. I like this answer haha I should add, my nurse friend told me to pull the lid down and if it's red in there she would take him in. It is pretty red. But again, white part looks good.

His eye looks like this kid's left eye if this kid's white's were white. This would be easier if I knew how to post a pic lol

This has happened to us a few times with a cold or EI. Per our pedi's nurse line, if the white of the eye is still white, it's not pinkeye.

My kid (4) had this last week. I took him in and it was not pink eye. Just part of his stuffy cold. The eye wasn’t red, just puffy and he got the crusty yuck on his eyelashes.

Exact same scenario for us very recently. Daycare said he had pinkeye, doctor said he didn't. The puffiness and gunk went away on their own when that particular bug did.

When DD had pinkeye, the whites of her eyes were still white, but the ooze was unbelievable. But when I caught her pinkeye, my eye was fairly pink, but almost no ooze.

My eyes don't get red with pink eye. Just the conjunctiva (if you pull down the bottom lid) gets very red and the eye goop is gross.

The eye is looking worse as the day goes on so I went ahead and called. Nurse said it didn't really sound like pink eye to her because it's not really goop, more watering and crusting. I went ahead and made an appointment for the morning when my H can stay home with the baby. Hopefully he'll start looking better and I can cancel it before then. Thanks ladies!

(Basically do you have any breast milk around?) It's magic gold for goopey eyes.
