A Number of Reasons I’ve Been Depressed Lately, by David Sedaris www.theparisreview.org/blog/2017/06/05/number-reasons-ive-depressed-lately/The first paragraph: One. It’s early September of 2015 and I’m on the island of Santorini for a literary festival. After the short reading, which takes place outdoors on a patio, the Greek audience asks questions, the first of which is, “What do you think of Donald Trump?”

This was my favorite part:
The guy in the T-shirt that pictures a semiautomatic rifle above the message COME AND TAKE IT—the one in fatigues buying two twelve packs of beer and a tub of rice pudding—didn’t necessarily vote Republican. He could have just stayed home on election day and force-fed the women he holds captive in the crawl space beneath his living room.

“And the queen had him killed … why, exactly?” I ask. “Because his name was Prince?”

brux I love David Sedaris so much - have you ever attended one of his live readings? He's fantastic. Also, I loved: "I'm not alone - I've got Cher." So good. Thanks for sharing.

Plus, if you end up going by yourself, sometimes you can snag a really good seat where there is just 1 available. Nobody will think you're a weirdo - you'll all be too busy laughing and clapping.

I went to a David Sedaris reading several years ago and it was the best. THE BEST. He read an essay about how his sister would always pressure him into buying clothes in the women's section that had me cry-laughing. Something like "That's me, removing my jacket at dinner and revealing that the label says "Sassy Sport". That's me, stepping up to the urinal, only to remember that these particular pants zip up in the back."
I got in line to have him sign my book, and he wrote "So nice to finally meet you."

Oh, I need to go! He's actually doing a reading in a tiny book store this summer, but tickets are sold out for the reading. He's doing a bit theater show later this year so I'll have to go to that. He's been my favorite author for so many years, I've lost track.

I've been to a couple of his readings. Anyone who finds him even remotely entertaining should go. He's next level in person. So brilliantly funny. Thanks for sharing, brux.
