Well the govt is slow... I did just get a call from my manager stating the govt is back open and I have until 1:03 to report. (They give you 4 hours to report after the govt is reopened). Do you get paid for the full day? I have no idea. I haven’t received any emails regarding pay. I sure hope so. And now my work has restated to report to work as soon as you can but no later than 1:03. So not confusing or anything.

My OPM alert finally popped up..... does this mean people need to scramble to get in to work now?

I was listening to NPR the other day and they were talking about the administration wanting to require a citizenship question in the Census. And also changing where armed forces members who are abroad are registered - to the base they shipped out of versus their home.
Both of these would have potential impact to Congressional districts and it feels like not enough attention is being paid due to the hot mess that is our country right now.

crunch I think this quote fromThe article says a lot about how Kelly probably treated issues of sexual assault/DV under his watch as a marine: "Mr. Kelly has previously played down accusations against someone he believed served a greater goal. He appeared as a character witness in a 2016 court-martial of a Marine colonel accused of sexually harassing two female subordinates. Mr. Kelly praised the colonel as a “superb Marine officer.” Theeeere it is. And I'm guessing there's more. Apparently that is this guy. nypost.com/2017/11/29/disgraced-marine-charged-with-sex-crimes-involving-minors/

Oh shit. Both of our long-term Dem Congressmen in the redder parts of MN are now out. Nolan's district swung to Trump in 2016.
I'm worried about MN in 2018. The whole damn state is up in the air.

We are so screwed. www.politico.com/newsletters/morning-money/2018/02/09/overnight-shutdown-099114TALK ABOUT BAD TIMING — Pantheon’s Ian Shepherdson: “The budget sequestration process, which cut discretionary government spending by a total of $114B in fiscal 2013 and fiscal 2014, was one of the dumbest things Congress has done in recent years. It substantially weakened the economy, which was still very fragile in the wake of the crash of 2008, almost pushing it back into recession. “But even that marker of Congressional cluelessness was surpassed by [the decision] to reverse the sequestration cuts, starting immediately with an $80B jump in defense spending … and a $63B increase in discretionary non-defense spending. [which occurred very early this morning with the budget vote] “Together, the boost to public spending amounts to 0.7% of GDP, on top of tax cuts which this year will total about 0.5% of GDP. So the aggregate easing of fiscal policy in fiscal 2018 will be 1.2% of GDP, in an economy where GDP growth is already running at nearly 3%” THE BOTTOM LINE— Congress is blasting fiscal stimulus into an economy that doesn’t need it, pushing up interest rates and backing the Fed into a corner where it may have to hike faster. It could all end very badly.

Can someone tell me what happened in FFFC? I was reading to and from my doctor appointment and put my phone away for H’s birthday brunch and came back and it was gone.
I was really counting on a long thread to entertain me during the massive snowstorm today.

It has to do with where the available office space is. Most is in closed offices either on base or at companies where everything is in the closed area. If you don't have a clearance, you basically can't work, so they're not really into it. There were so many jobs I was turned down for because I just didn't have a clearance. I don't think it's so much because of the cost of clearance, though, as it is the time. If you're in an area where you have a lot of qualified applicants who already have clearance and can start work immediately, and you've got a qualified candidate without clearance who may take months to get their clearance, it will put those without clearance at a disadvantage. But if you're in an area where there are fewer people w/ clearance (this is true in the Austin area for sure), it's easier to get a job that requires clearance when you don't have one, even if it may mean you can't do certain work for months. The employers balk less at the $$ than the lost work hours while waiting for everything to go through. That's really what I meant. They pay you for your 40 hours/week when you can't work. They balk at the cost of paying you to sit and do nothing for weeks/months before you get your interim. It's expensive when you can't charge that time to a contract.

It's standard practice here.

Ok I realize this is silly news, but apparently back when Trump got married (for the third time) he claimed he got a $1M discount on Melania’s engagement ring in exchange for “the publicity”.
The jeweler who sold him the ring now admits this was a lie, that there was no discount.
Man can’t tell the truth to save his life. Come on, Mueller interview!

A lot of larger consulting companies do it. They can usually give people other tasks while they wait for interim clearance and final clearance. That’s how it worked for DH’s initial clearance at least. He did have to wait a few months for a different clearance level before his hiring was finalized as a fed.

AW moment: I’m 6 weeks post op today. My checkup was fabulous, I got to have my knee brace unlocked up to 30 degrees (which after 6 weeks of it being totally straight is incredible). Now I need to learn to walk correctly again- it’s like my brain does not understand that the knee can bend now so it takes like an actual concentrated effort every step reminding myself “ok bend, step, bend, step”. AND I start PT on Tuesday 💃🏽
