I've determined that I am not enough of a responsible adult to be expected to wear mascara & not end up looking like Uncle fester by 6pm.
Please share your eyelash extensioning experiences.

Well. Its a double edged sword. I have had them twice. This time I have had them for about a year and a half. They ruin your eyelashes, are expensive and require a ton of maintenance, but once you start, you can't stop.

I really wish I did a lash lift. Have you looked into that? The results are amazing.

I currently have them and it's my first time. I am in love. I find that I don't even need to wear eye makeup as my eyes already look done. It's saving me a ton of time getting ready. As Cher said though, not cheap.

What happened- were yours all short and sparse after the extensions?

I got them for my 30th birthday and they looked amazing but, it's a lot of maintenance and money. I got them done a couple times after that but, stopped because I couldn't justify the cost any longer. I also really love to wear eye makeup, and you can't really get them wet so that was annoying trying to wash my face.

Hello, I'm a recovering lash extension addict. I got hooked 4 years ago when I did a trial for my wedding and I got them done every month for the last 4 years. I decided to stop after my daughter was born because it's a huge time and money commitment. I don't think it ruined my lashes but its hard to go back to wearing mascara. I was looking at lash lifts and booked an appointment but had to reschedule for next week because I my kid got sick. Will report back.

You can't get them wet??? Ok well.. That's prob out then You can a little bit, or at least the lady who did mine said you could but, she told me to avoid getting them really wet in the shower or when I wash my face at night. I don't have lash extensions, but they are so popular here in Southeast Asia - basically all my friends have them. From what I understand, you should avoid getting them wet, but it's not the end of the world if you get a little water (without soap) on them. You need to be really careful, however, when using a facial cleanser at night to take your makeup off/wash your face. Pretty much all cleansers, if they run down over your lashes during washing or while rinsing, will break down the glue that holds the lash extensions on. So...they won't last as long. There is a solution though --> The lady who does all my friends gives them a special eye cleanser that is safe to use with lash extensions. Then, my friends use cleansing water (with a cotton pad) on the rest of their face to take off their makeup. So, while washing your face might be a bit harder and you have to avoid water more, it's definitely doable. I'm lazy AF and don't want to deal with the time/upkeep, so I haven't gotten them. But they do look great on everyone I know who has them!

I freaking love my extensions and have had them for 5 years. Maybe 6? The advice I give everyone, do your homework. Go to someone who specializes in extensions, not an estheticition who does them on the side or god forbid a nail salon. I have given my lashes a break from extensions once per year and haven't noticed any damage. Also, I swim with them all the time to no ill affect.

I get mine wet all the time. I just can't go hard on rubbing my eyes or sleeping on my face. I use all the same products, they just have to be oil-free.

What happened- were yours all short and sparse after the extensions? Yup. I know people say a good lash tech won't let that happen or that it just feels like that because you're used to having lash extensions, but I definitely lost some of my lashes.

I do think it's important to go to the best lash tech possible. I agree, definitely not nail salons. That said, I go to an amazing woman that owns a lash place, and I pay a ridiculous amount every other week. It's definitely an addiction where you start doing crazy stuff to make it happen.

So I chatted with my lash extension friends, and I think maybe they are a little extra crazy about avoiding water because they only go every 3-4 weeks for refills (not every other week). They also said the first 24 hours you really shouldn't get them wet, but if you get water on them after that period of time, it's not as bad. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I really want lash extensions someday - maybe when I have more time. Everyone that has them loves it.

Yeah, I avoid getting them wet the day I get them filled. I used to go every 3-4 weeks but i hate when they start looking sparse, so now it's every other week.
Like I said, not the best addiction of mine!

I am so tempted to do this for a destination wedding but the not getting them wet thing has me concerned. I love swimming in the ocean since 99% of the time I'm landlocked.

I had my makeup done this weekend and I was talking about it to the makeup artist and she said her one piece of advice about them was don't do it for a one time thing. If you want it for an event or a few days, just use individual lashes. But if you're not planning on continuing to get them done, don't do it because it's way too much stress on your eyelashes.

Have you thought of just getting your lashes tinted? I don't know anything about it TBH. I see that a very reputable salon in my area has added it to her services and it came up today on my Facebook feed.

That's depressing. I feel like most ppl do get them done as one-offs for a special reason. Welp guess I am now sucked into this for life!

I used to do individual lashes for events which I feel like give you the same effect but come off in a couple of days. But, lashes for life isn't a bad punishment.

I meant that it sucks that the MUA thinks it's so bad for your lashes that it's not even worth doing as a one time thing. Soooo that's what I will be telling mh when he asks why we are now spending $$$ on lash refills. "Hello, H! There is no turning back now."

FlightView store bought individuals. But I have had makeup artists do them for events and they give a similar effect short-term.

I got my lashes permed (or whatever it's called) and tinted 2 weeks ago. I can discuss the experience and results if anyone is interested.

yummeecookeeI got them done 2 weeks ago. Lift and tint. It was easy and I actually fell asleep while she was doing it. The results are... ok. It's not life changing but I think my expectations were high because of my lash extension addiction. My biggest complaint is that now I'm noticing that a few lashes are over curled and they look like little squiggles that point in different directions. I just comb them out with a little lash brush. It was $120 for lift and tint. Let me know if you have more questions
