My son is almost 8 (his birthday is in Feb). He is doing really well, he is a big reader and is currently into "A Series of Unfortunate Events", he is playing basketball and doing to school play. I'm good, really working hard on myself physically. I'm 13 months post vertical sleeve gastrectomy and have lost 100+ lbs. QOTW: I'm sure my son would love it to be winter forever, me? Not so much

enchanted - Has his current teacher offered any advice about K? I mean, listening and instruction struggles (<--- sounds too strong, but couldn't think of another word) are so common at that age. J is 4.5. She's been pretty cool this week. We had some issues with her thinking Daddy didn't do as much around the house as Mommy. This came out at school when she said, "Daddy doesn't cook or clean or help Mommy at all," while she was playing house. We addressed it, but it surely opened some eyes regarding our current work situation and the routines we're in. Sigh... It hit me hard, honestly. I work a lot - especially this time of year - and MH works a full-time job, too. We do our best, but I think we're seeing some of the inadvertent repercussions of being two FT/outside-the-home working parents. Ugh. QOTW: I'd be fine with more winter. I'm stuck inside until April anyway LOL I'd rather be stuck inside while it's snowing and cold v. sunny and warm.

oldbaylover1024 I've talked to them. His one teacher seems to think he's doomed to fail next year and the other teacher says it's normal behavior, especially since he is the youngest in the class. She thinks he will be fine next year, that he may struggle a little at first, but will quickly figure it out. So, basically, no help since they're split. Well... that's... something.
I feel like trusting your gut is crucial here. How do you and YH feel about it?

I think he needs to go. I think repeating Pre-K (even at another school) or doing Junior K is just going to lead to him being bored because it's not challenging and that's going to lead to more behavior problems. My husband's parents delayed him and he says he thinks it was good for him, but he sees both sides of the argument for The Boy. Argh! FWIW, I used to help make the decision of who was and was not recommended for K vs pre-K, and I agree with you about the boredom risk.

DS1 (6) has had a really good week! He is doing well in tutoring, has been listening much better, and do so well graduating into the older ninja class. He was very worried about keeping up his first day, but he had no problems! His coaches (and I!) were very proud of how well he transitioned.
I'm okay. I have an appointment Friday for a surgeon consult to get my gallbladder out, so that's a bummer, but I'd rather do it now than wait until it gets worse!
QOTW: I really need winter to go away, like yesterday. This 50* one day, 15* the next stuff is killing me. I miss running outside regularly, and the boys do so much better with more outside time. It's warm enough to play outside today and we are going to play outside until it gets too dark.

oldbaylover1024, it's hard to juggle everything, especially this time of year. Give yourselves some grace (and work on that chore balance!!).

DS1 came home sick a bit ago. He just pooped and now he's bouncing off the walls happy to be home and feeling better. LOL, kid is lucky he's cute.
