Do hospitals have hair dryers? I felt so terrible after my delivery with my daughter. I didn't even enjoy the shower and I cannot remember much of the hospital stay other than barely being able to move.

I didn't even enjoy the shower and I cannot remember much of the hospital stay other than barely being able to move. Mine had a hair dryer and lots of little amenities like decent toiletries. The first shower is so scary bc your body looks so weird and youre not sure what fluid is coming from where. I was legit afraid to look down. Ignorance was bliss.

Hmm Iβm going to Ikea this weekend Leaf π±. I might throw that towel on my list. Thatβs a good idea. I looooved my first post partum shower. I was so tired I just stood in there until I felt like passing out. It was amazing to feel clean and not like I was just leaking from everywhere. I was of course but it felt good to pretend it was water.

One thing DH and I did on accident that ended up working well was to pack a bag of essentials and then put all the βmaybesβ in another bag. We left the βmaybeβ bag in the car and was able to get it once things were more settled and I had a better idea of what I needed. (Maybe not a great option if your car is super far away though.) We also randomly had an ikea bag in the trunk and that was insanely useful for carrying out all the gifts, postpartum supplies, etc managed to acquire. Weβll definitely do that again. I might just let you plan everything for me in the next couple of weeks. The βmaybeβ bag in the car is brilliant. I way overpacked last time

My crazy type-A personality would love to interview you and then make a very detailed list, pack bags, and label all the things. Then Iβd add a freshly washed ikea towel. Seriously though, bring all the things, just donβt bring them all in with you. I think Iβm getting packing cubes this time to help stay organized. I canβt deal with how DH rummages through my bags. ....Since I canβt pack your bag, I need work to give me a big project to work on. My brain needs something to obsess over besides my own pregnancy/delivery.

I will definitely be referencing this when I pack and I'll be packing everything that everybody suggested and then some. But for sure need to remember to leave half of it in the car! We did the hospital tour last night and how much stuff to bring came up. The nurse said she overpacked for her first and I'm like yup that will be me! Then she talked about people bringing stuff to make the room feel like home. Potted plants! string lights, and once someone brought a HARPIST and had them in the bathroom playing for them. π

Why are we talking about this?
IM IN DENIAL......
I donβt have a list... I can tell you I will have two bags - one for me and one for baby.
DH can pack his own...
And we will have to pack for the kids BUT I think MIL will opt to just spend the night at our house for ease, we havenβt discussed it yet.
I know my bag will have several hair ties, micellar wipes, lip balm, socks, nursing bra/tank, nursing nightgown, basic toiletries, makeup... thatβs pretty much it.

Ok I thought of something.
Always infinity pads are the BEST once your PP bleed lessens. Get the longs for overnight and the regulars for day time.
Also UNSCENTED.
Also I would grab some Prep H ointment.. just trust me on this - regardless C or V birth... things slow down again and the roids like to visit AFTER birth.

Take the stool softeners! Donβt be a hero! Heroes probably donβt cry on the toilet.

I actually use cloth pads! Cue the horror from some of you, probably. Thatβs okay though.
So mine are all in the bathroom cabinet, ready to go. I use what they give me in the hospital.

ovenrack yianna DH was like why are you gonna take stool softeners?? I just said, don't ask, but I've heard things and I wanna be prepared. Lol this was after a discussion about getting an enema when you go in. What say you all about that? Is it traumatizing?? If I'm in labor for 12+ hours I plan to be eating anyway, so probably pointless? And ovenrack, cloth pads are not more gross than menstrual cups. Well, all pads are super gross to me, but when they're your only choice...

Well, all pads are super gross to me, but when they're your only choice... I donβt know anyone who gets an enema anymore... I think itβs very old fashioned advice! Youβll either poop on the toilet in labor when you need to, or youβll poop while pushing. The nurses/midwifes are pros. Iβm Team Menstrual Cup all the way, but the cloth pads are handy and my kids wear cloth diapers so I already have a great wash routine.

I have something similar. I don't know if I can ever truly go back to disposable pads. The convenience and holding power is too nice to me.

Ok I love cloth pads too but in the beginning I have to add too many layers... but those are actually great for now with the pee leakage etc lol.
Iβve never been offered an enema. In fact your body starts cleaning itself out before birth for most anyway.

My hospital doesn't do routine enemas, it would just be if I asked for one. I love my hospital btw; anything I asked about, they basically said "it's your birth, you're the boss, we can't force you to do/not do anything". Anyway I'm hoping for a water birth and I feel like pooping in the tub would be a bigger issue than pooping on the bed/table?? Probably obvious that I'm a FTM since I even care about pooping lol.

Pooping in the tub, iirc, is a much bigger deal because that water could contaminate baby's airway if they gulp before making it out of the water. On the table, baby ain't anywhere near it.

I'm so behind the times, I didn't even realize cloth pads are a thing. It seems like its probably not even the grossest thing that goes in my washing machine.
That said, I have an unnatural love for my menstrual cup. What a game changer that bitty is.

So how many cans of dermoplast do I need? AKA, if I get a multipack on Amazon am I wasting my money?

So how many cans of dermoplast do I need? AKA, if I get a multipack on Amazon am I wasting my money? One in each bathroom youβll use regularly. I had a little postpartum basket full of supplies in the two bathrooms I use most often at home and a mini bag of supplies in the diaper bag. DNW to have to go all the way upstairs every time I had to pee.

Ok I feel so naive. Are we using Dermoplast before we pee so it doesn't burn/hurt?? Or is it just a reapply each time you have access to that region type of situation??

So how many cans of dermoplast do I need? AKA, if I get a multipack on Amazon am I wasting my money? You can get one per bathroom. But what I did last time was make up a bag of all my bathroom supplies (pads , tucks, dermoplast, Peri bottle) then if I changed floors, I'd take it with me.

I'd go to the bathroom, use the Peri bottle, tucks if necessary, then spray the dermoplast. Fwiw, I only used the dermoplast the first two days or so. And I had two episiotomies.

alwayscheese I used it after I peed/showered/whenever I was uncomfortable. It kind of keeps things cool and a bit numb. Itβs also good for general stuff like sunburn and bug bites.

I actually bought a bottle a while back when I injured my foot. It was the red bottle so I learned the hard way and never really used it. π₯π’

I love this thread. I won't post my list since it's very similar to what has already been posted. One thing I will add is that DH ended up having to buy a cheap, small extension cord for my phone charger because mine wasn't long enough to reach from the wall to the bed. So this time, I'm buying an extra long charger so I won't even have to deal with an extension cord.
Also, my own snacks. I was so hungry during my whole stay in the hospital. I couldn't seem to get enough food.

What does it say about me that Iβve been avoiding this thread?
I cannot even remember what I packed in my hospital bag last time.
