We're expecting our second baby at the end of March. We both really like the nickname Edie but feel like she needs a formal full name to go on the birth certificate. Edith is the obvious choice but our last name ends in "th" so it sounds a little lisp-y. Does it matter if she goes by Edie anyway? The other name SO suggested was Eden but I'm not a fan. Are there any other suggestions for a full name? Or can Edie stand on it's own?
Maeve is the other name on the table and SO loves Marigold and Juniper but I don't think I could do that to a human baby. Possibly a kitten.
And for a boy, Silas or Cyrus? I like Silas better. Help me win.

My friend has an Edie who is just Edie. No longer name.
And I’d vote Silas for a boy all day every day. But that name is very sentimental for me. I love it!

I love love love the name Edith and Edie is such a cute nn. I've never considered the -th sound. It wouldn't fete me personally from using that name.
And I love Silas as well. I have a family member Silas and I love it every time I say his name.
Great options!

Love it! Maybe Edita if you aren’t sure about Edith.
And Silas for the win!

Perhaps a middle name starting with D, so the nickname is initials instead of specifically short for the first name.
I agree with using a more formal given name to give her more options when she is older. Love Edie as a nickname though!

I'd give Edie a formal name. Love tarheelmom 's idea to give her E-D as initials! Other options are Edele and and Edna. I'd also consider names that lean toward just the "E" sound or spelling (Irina, Imogen, Eileen) because they could lend themselves to Edie as a nickname. I like Cyrus better than Silas so I'm no help there, sorry!

I love Maeve. I would go with Edith since she would go by Edie and there aren’t a lot of setting where you say your first and last name together anyway.
