We never had those drills when I was in school. Columbine was the first big one that I recall (except one right here at Cal State Fullerton in the 70's) and that happened about 6 weeks before the end of my senior year.
Our school was old and completely open, no inner halls. Impossible to lock down.

So I had easily the most embarrassing experience in a very long time.
Apparently I am not completely over the stomach bug because I have wicked gas.
So we were at the mall play place and I tell Pete we gotta go, my tummy is bothering me.
Well.
It's a long walk back to the car and I couldn't hold it. Atticus was walking behind me and starts complaining as loudly as he possibly could, "Oh my God. Jesus. It stinks. What's that awful smell?! It's the worst! MOM YOU TOOTED! That awful smell is coming from your bottom!"
Yes, people heard. There were stares and snickers.

Kids are so kind cagoldi. I'm sorry your stomach is still bothering you. I hope it subsides soon.

Regarding an earlier comment about the kids coming to sleep in bed with you in the middle of the night. I was wondering if I would regret not letting them sleep in our bed. They've never asked, but I've never pushed for it either. And they're only little and extra cuddly for so long. J has started coming like clockwork into our bed and we tried to snub it, which ended poorly. I actually kind of like it, but would appreciate a king sized bed. I think it was aha parenting or some website that recommended letting them fall back to sleep in your bed and moving them to their bed. And that they will outgrow it, but often good to get the cuddles in that they don't need as much during the day. Sorry to burst your bubble but a king bed doesn’t make a difference. I still wake up with only a foot of bed to sleep on. Darn kids.

As much as I wonder if I'd regret not having the kids in bed with me, I also don't think I'd like it. I'm no where near a starfish in bed (much more like a barnacle), but I appreciate the extra space around me when I want to flip over. We are not a bedshare family. The last night of vacation S peed his bed at like 2 am. Obviously we didn’t have a change of sheets so we just told him to climb in our bed. Part of me thought I would love snuggling with him. It was terrible. Thank goodness he never tries it. Like others, sometimes he’ll come in our bed in the morning but it’s usually with the iPad. We’ll snuggle for a few before my shower. We snuggle in his bed before bed

I don’t mind bedsharing when they are little (like under 15 months) but then I hit my limit and am done. H isn’t allowed in our bed unless she’s sick. S comes into my bed at 7am when she wakes and I try to get her to go back to sleep. Never works.

inthekitty You're doing Goofy's Kitchen next Monday at 6, right? I checked with Pete and we're free to bring our little beasties to meet up! Sorry, it was busy at work today and I'm the lead this week so it was nonstop. I just checked the reservations. It's for 6:50. Hope that works and I'll get to see you guys!

They've never asked, but I've never pushed for it either. And they're only little and extra cuddly for so long. Sounds like I'm the only one who enjoys/enjoyed bed sharing. But it started when Evie was 4 months old. Something we all got used to. She would start the night in her bed, then eventually end up in ours. She's a great snuggler and I feel better having her so close (her bedroom is on the other side of the house). Yes, she's hot. No, I can no move much when she's in bed with me. But I also have two dogs who sleep with me that inhibit my movements as well. The last year or so, she has started sleeping way more often, all night, in her bed. Very rarely, does she sleep with me. I miss the snuggles. I miss waking up with her hair in my face and giving her a kiss as I get up for the day.

I enjoyed it when my girls were babies but I eventually got to the point where I wanted my space back. Morning snuggles are the best.

Max would not be happy if C ended up in our bed regularly. We bed share when we are at hotels and when our power was out for a few days. We sleep like crap and are all ready to get back our own space.

O will start riding the bus in September but the school is only 2 blocks from our house, so he’ll only be on the bus less than 5 minutes. We are the last stop before they head to the school and the first stop after school.

School busses don’t really exist over here (except in very rural areas). I think 75% of kids cycle or walk to school (with their parents).

Speaking of school shootings, I don't know if I ever told you guys about my old religion teacher/our school's campus minister. Super nice guy, so he seemed. After I was out of high school he ended up leaving to work elsewhere (not a school) and ended up shooting and killing a bunch of people there. Later in prison he also tried to kill a police officer. So weird to think about. He seemed so nice and normal.

Peach, I was just looking at this a couple days ago! It looks cool! A's cousin has it for her baby and it's so great to have a place to put him down when were at cookouts and everyone is trying to eat or play games or whatever. And when he falls asleep she zips up the net to keep the bugs out and other kids from bothering him. Or just being out in the yard with the big kids during the warmer months. And it folds down small.

She was using it in August and he was born in April. So he was 5 months and just sat in it with some toys playing.
