I'm not all rah-rah for this deal but I would like for someone to point me to a different - realistic - path out of this for Dems.
I'm glad we got CHIP. I'm not happy about DACA at all but now they can't hold CHIP hostage during the next round of negotiations and use that as a talking point.

I mean the fact that CHIP was even being negotiated is fucking crazy to me. I am so salty about that. We are talking about healthcare for children.
Fuck the GOP.

I mean they probably were going to say this after their preferred candidate doesn't win the 2018 primary for whatever Senate race anyway. Call me cynical.

I think Dems made the right move. Shutdowns don't look good for anyone, and though they may not seem to have gotten much, this way they aren't agreeing to CHIP vs DACA. It's now, CHIP now, DACA next.
It sucks all the way around. Governments should not shutdown like this because someone wants to make a point.

Anything that relies on an IOU from McConnell who stole a SCOTUS seat just feels like a stinker to me. I rarely bash the Dems and I am damn near despondent on this one.

I also don’t trust voters to reward a principled stance. And honestly, reward them in 10 months when a metric fuckton of other things have come and gone.

Best case scenario, everything works out the way Schumer is hoping it will. In a worst case scenario, if GOP backs out from immigration deal, after weeks more opportunities to negotiate, Dems can use that in 2018 if they're savvy. Keep feeding Trump enough rope to hang himself? (Metaphorically, as in ample opportunity to cave or flip-flop or prove incompetent.) I suspect that this additional time in the limelight will stress the cracks already in the GOP senate-White House relationship.

And I don't have any faith that the GOP will follow through. But they bought time, I suppose.

I know that they needed to vote yes on this it just sucks that it came down to this in the first place. Holding healthcare for children and DACA hostage sucks. I am hopeful that things will go better next time since they don't have CHIP to bargain with anymore.

For better or worse, progressives are a fickle flock of birds. If the #resistance and #bluewave really fall apart by November because of this, I will be surprised. This may be a disappointing move by the Dems, but if you care that much about immigrants, the alternative to the Dems has to be wholly unacceptable.

So I've been in a meeting for the last 2 hours, but I thought the vote was procedural and to allow the CR vote without debate. Did they pass that and roll right into the vote vote?

I am hopeful that things will go better next time since they don't have CHIP to bargain with anymore. Thats exactly what happened. they COULD have pulled CHIP months ago and passed it. They WENT to the WH with a bipartisan DACA bill and 45 peed on it. This could have been avoided and that needs to be the message for the next 10 months.

They're buying into false promises, but I don't know what else they could do. At some point, they are going to have to hold the line, no matter what, and unfortunately, I think it's going to hurt blue chances at the polls. Unless they keep passing CRs until the fall, I don't think it will hurt blue chances at the polls. Please knock on wood immediately.

How is the pres gonna work with dems while running a campaign ad calling them murders. Look (drink) we're focusing on illegal immigration and his position on border security hasnt changed.
Hes only talking to repub Look (drink) weve been very clear what we want to see on legislation. theres not a whole lot of daylight between dems and what we want. (because we're stepping on their necks and holding hostage a host of things)
She also brings up funding the military and vulnerable children

She doesnt see todays deal being drastically different from the one Schumer took over last week.
President has 'liberties' she doesnt. Like violating the Hatch Act.

I’m Not mad about what happened today at all. Tides were turning. People were starting to blame Dems. The last news was trump hardly worked this weekend. Vote an extension the next day including chip with the immigration promise. Chip is taken care of. Last news was trump didn’t even help or work and in fact, hurt it all. Dems get the “promise” of immigration and when that doesn’t happen they say “nope sorry you didn’t stick to your word”
I’m pretty big on having a set explanation/promise and put the ball in their court to tuck up. Let them fuck themselves up.
Sorry my responses are all over the place and short and dry. My kids are about to wake up from nap.

If people are unwilling to secure borders, end chain migration, or fix problems that we know to be problematic they are going to be to blame for future problems
Look she isnt negotiating from the podium.

LOOK we've put out a number of readouts (i didnt hear the question) but it seems to be about the shutdown not being weaponized as it was in 2013, its gone much smoother than in the past. He has stood firm and made sure everyone is taken care of.
STOP LAUGHCRYING EVERYONE
