If you are doing NIPT test, are you doing the U/S too? My RE's office said many women do both. But my OBs office said the scan wasn't needed. So when I set up my appt today with MFM, I asked and the nurse there said it wasn't needed with the new blood work.

Both are recommended in our practice (part of Duke hospitals). The genetic counselor I talked to said that the scan could better detect certain conditions than the blood test.
The NIPT blood test gives results for downs, trisomy 18, trisomy 13 and sex chromosome abnormalities. The NT scan tests for increased nuchal translucency which can be associated with additional birth defects.
I can share the documentation they gave me to read if anyone is interested (DH couldn’t be there so I took pictures).

I did the NIPT and am having the NT scan as well. The OB said that the NT scan can look for things outside of the NIPT like cardiac issues. But, I suspect that you’d also find those issues in the anatomy scan too if you didn’t have the NT scan.

My practice sends you to MFM and they won't do NIPT without the NT scan. It was explained to me that the NT scan checks for other things that NIPT doesn't.

+1 i would do both. the NT scan can find physical abnormalities that would not be apparent with just the bloodwork. my OB practice does both.

I had both at the suggestion of my doctor. I hadn't expected both to be required until I talked to him about it. I think the recommendations are evolving with the technology.

I am doing blood testing at 11 weeks and my OB is also seeing me at 13 weeks and a US will be done. She said to look at the nuchal fold but also because sometimes it's still hard to find the HB with a doppler at that time.
The testing was optional though. I'm assuming even if I had declined I would still have the US at 13 weeks.

I know I'm late in this discussion, but I'm just now 11 weeks. Anyone low risk and still opted to have the NIPT? I would like to opt in, but I'm worried about a false positive causing unnecessary stress.

My practice does a scan too. I think they called it a limited anatomy scan.

Mine doesn’t do the NIPT test or u/s for low risk but offered the Panorama blood test at 12 weeks and the quad test at 16 weeks.

Give me all the info.

I know there may be tests that don't get that involved and there may be false positives there?
