I've been talking to my family, and it seems that CPD (pelvis not opening enough for baby to come out) runs quite strongly in it. My mom, one aunt, and one cousin were diagnosed with it for all of their pregnancies and wound up having emergency Cs. My other cousin was told "failure to progress" and had emergency Cs with both her boys. Only one aunt has managed to have a vaginal birth.
MH and I have talked it over and, given my family history, and the fact that I very strongly take after my mom in all things physically, I am going to be asking for a scheduled c section.
I have an appointment next Monday, at 17 weeks. Would it be better to bring it up then, or should I wait a little longer?
Also, I appreciate that some people may have different opinions on the matter, but this is what I have decided after lengthy talks with both MH and my mom. Please do not try to talk me out of it.

No experience there, but I would probably bring it up with your OB as soon as possible. I like to keep my OB in the loop about my plans.

I had a scheduled c section with my first, he was breech. I’m having another one with this baby too. I would go ahead and discuss with your OB now so you can discuss anything in case they are against it or have concerns, you’ll have time to work through them.

Definitely bring it up now as hospitals schedule c-section months in advance. I hear that scheduled c-sections are somewhat easier to recover from that emergency or unexpected ones. You have very valid concerns that your Dr needs to be aware of for your safety and the baby’s safety so that the right plan of action can be decided on. I’m sorry that you have this weighing on your mind on top of the normal concerns.

I've heard that too, about scheduled Cs being easier to recover from. I'm fairly certain that it will be a battle to get them to agree, but I'm determined to stick to my guns.

I would bring it up now with your concerns why you want one. It will help your OB and you plan.

I’d bring it up ASAP. If your OB tells you absolutely not, you’ve got more time to look for another.

I had an emergency c section with DD because my pelvis was too small and she got stuck (at 6lb 2 oz) so I’m having a scheduled c section this time. My OB told me the recovery would be better and the risks are lower for the baby so I feel like it’s the right decision for me. Chatting with your OB as early as possible will help you decide what’s best for you too. Mentally being prepared for it would be good, the emergency situation isn’t ideal. Good luck, I’m sure your OB will be willing to discuss all the factors. Earliest is best.

+1 to PPs. Bring it up asap. Someone on my other BMB has serious stomach issues that her GI doctor didn't want her to go through labor. I know she had a lot of push back from her first OB about scheduling a c/s without even trying for natural.
I had an emergency C-section after laboring and pushing for a few hours. Recovery was not easy since my body was exhausted and then I had major abdominal surgery. My son was giant (9 lbs 1 oz) and face up leading him to be very stuck. My daughter is measuring very average so far meaning a VBAC is currently an option but they won't induce me or let me go past my due date.

How are you going with this mthibodeau929? Have you had a chance to discuss with your OB yet?
I had another big chat with mine about it last week so it was on my mind and wondered if you’ve made a decision.

adeline, The last time I was in the office, the doctor seemed rather in a hurry (I had filled out a form for mental state and he didn't even look at it, just glanced through it). When I mentioned the CPD, his response was "we'll keep that in mind". H is going with me next time, and I'm seeing the high risk doctor at the same time who knows me a little better, so I'm going to bring it up again.

Just a little update. I saw a doctor today who listened to me and was actually the doctor who does elective c sections. She said that it's really up to me and she'll see me at 32 weeks to make my decision :-)

Did she think that it was a good idea given your concerns?

Did she think that it was a good idea given your concerns? Yes, definitely! And yes, she agreed that my concerns are valid. She said really the only way to know if you will have CPD is to let you go through labor, and it also isn't supposed to run in families, but it's just way too big of a coincidence.
