My husband and I like the name Kate but can’t decide if we like that for a full name or if we want to find a name (Katherine or something) and have Kate be a nickname for it. This is our second daughter and we are really struggling to come up with anything we like. Other names we have kicked around are Claire, Audrey, and Amelia. We just have not fallen in love with anything yet. Any suggestions or advice appreciated. We didn’t have much trouble coming up with the name for our first, but #2 is throwing us. Sorry for the word vomit!

I like Kate and think it goes well with your other daughter's name! I like it as a stand alone name and have also seen it short for Kathleen which I think is pretty.

I love Kate. I would probably go with Katherine and use Kate as a nickname. I love your other options too.
Clara Camille Elena Violet Cecilia Willa Stella Elizabeth Laurel Rosalind Isabel Daphne Caroline

I prefer a full name with a nickname. My grandmother is Catherine but goes by Kae so keep in mind that it doesn't have to start with K. Full name options for Kate: Katherine/Katharine Katerina Katrine/Katrina Katherina/Katharina Caitlin Catalina Cateline

I dislike Kate as a standalone name. Could be a nn for: Catriona Catherine Caterina Catalina Katja Catrina Catrin
Other good names: Clara Alice Cora Corinna Flora Julia Sylvia Livia Mira Aurelia Leah Petra Thea Dafna Daphne Phoebe Noelle Iona Lyra Beatrix Selah Sabine Violet Marie

Thank you guys! I’m adding a lot of your suggestions to the list. We need to figure out a middle name too so I appreciate the lists!

I like Kate as a nn, and in addition to Catherine, Katharine, and Katherine, I also love the fourth traditional spelling, which is Kathryn, though I know some people around here don't care for it.

Is it weird to use the C spelling for Catherine but still use the K for Kate?

ArielMermaid: My aforementioned grandmother (Catherine) was called Katie by her late husband so I wouldn't think it was odd.

I actually think Kate/Katie will sound really fresh in this generation - since there were a bajillion Millennial girls with that name, most of them won't use it on their own kids. Your DD will probably be a rarity!

I'm the oddball, but my name is a "half a name" as a full name so I'm a big fan of that.

Mine is along the lines of Jen, so people assume it's only 1 option for the "full" name. But I've never found it annoying, it's usually a fun conversation starter when I say no it's not.

Is it weird to use the C spelling for Catherine but still use the K for Kate? isn’t this how the duchess of Cambridge does it? I know you'll Know so I’m not going to look it up 😉

I know you'll Know so I’m not going to look it up 😉 Haha yes except she only goes by Catherine now as per protocol. Another reason I’m waivering on the name. It will probably make me look crazy.
