Did no one but me take issue with them making Jonas older in the movie? In the book he was a preteen but in the movie he was clearly an older teen. That and the extra romance they put in between him and Fiona bothered me. This bothered me. As did the definitive ending. And the extra stuff with the main elder lady. It bothered by students a lot, too.

Loved the book. I enjoyed the movie but not on the same level as the book. I also loved her book Number the Stars. Number the Stars is such an amazing book. Another one that had a big impact on me growing up.

The Giver is one of my all-time favorite books. Such a powerful story. Exactly this! I still have my copy from when I was a kid bc I can't part with it.

The Giver and Number the Stars are both excellent. I also enjoyed Gathering Blue but haven't read the others in the series.
I agree with the aforementioned critique about the movie. There was no need for the love story element and part of Jonas' innocence was is age.
Katherine Patterson is another author of youth books who has very well-written books that are so emotionally impactful. Bridge to Terabithia is her most famous and will probably make you cry. The Great Gilly Hopkins is also excellent and there is a pretty good movie version of it on Netflix.
