Let's support each other in feeding our babies.
Bottle or breast or combo?
If bottle: how much/how often?
What formula are you using?
If breast: how long per feed/how often?
What bottles are you using?
Longest stretch at night?
Any questions?

Bottle or breast or combo? Breast
If bottle: how much/how often? Haven't introduced a bottle yet, but will be this week. Will be breast milk.
What formula are you using? N/A
If breast: how long per feed/how often? 2-3 hours during the day. Feeding on demand st night. 10-30 minutes per feed. One side at a time only. Usually clusterfeeds anytime between 5-11.
What bottles are you using? The spectra bottles that came w/my pump or Medela.
Longest stretch at night? 4 hours, usually the first stretch.
Any questions? With the clusterfeeding and E's small mouth my nipples are still pretty sore. We have seen 3 LCs who have told us we are on the right track and his latch looks good. But his latch is definitely not good. I'm debating if I want to try a nipple shield to let my nipples heal a little. Most of what I've read are pretty against using them. Anyone use one before? Were you able to wean easily? Did it affect your milk supply? I'm going to do a bottle of breast milk a day once I've started to pump to see if that relieves some discomfort.

Thanks. I would rather not use a nipple shield if I can help it. But I also do want to be in so much pain that I end up giving up breastfeeding. N wasn't a great nurser either and that's why I have gone to get help. I really hope E gets better as he gets older. I do have some gel pads that were given to me by the LC. They help some but it's the cluster feeding that's really killing me because my nipples never have a break.

sarahandben108 - I've used a nipple shield with both and never had issues switching back to breast. With both I did try to make sure they were still getting a shield-less nurse every 1/4 or so to make sure they didn't lose the feel, and it made a HUGE difference in healing everything up. I have oversupply and there was no effect. (I also used the shield to help the tiny babies regulate the milk flow a little better so they weren't drowning as much.) I'd recommend trying it - do one with and then the next without and if he seems to be eating badly you can skip using it - one time isn't going to break you and it might offer a lot of relief.

These are my favorite too - those gel pads really help heal. It's irritating to keep taking off and washing breast especially if cluster feeding but I think it's worth it.

Breast with occasional bottle of pumped milk (one every few days).
When she gets a bottle she tends to take about 2 oz; with weighted feeds at nursing meetups she tends to take in 2.5 oz. (When I pump for replacement when she gets a bottle I get 3-5 oz in 5-7 min, so supply is still a bit insane.)
She goes anywhere between 2 and 4 hours in between feeds. We had one 6 hour stretch accompanied with a nearly 5 hour sleep stretch which was awesome. Some cluster feeding from 7-10 these days, but when she does she tends to sleep better at night, so I tend to feed her hourly then if she wants it. Have also found the MAM newborn pacifier is best for her, so I use that too.
We use Comotomos. I love them.
Longest has been about 5 hours, unfortunately she needed to be rocked for an hour so I only got 4 but it was AWESOME.
No questions right now. Thankfully feeling good and supported between past experience and IRL nursing group.

Bottle or breast or combo? Breast
If breast: how long per feed/how often? Every 2hrs, 3 if it's a good nap. 15 minutes per breast. He almost always wants both.
What bottles are you using? We haven't started yet but will this week. We'llbe using avent. They worked great with E.
Longest stretch at night? 3 hrs. He is the gassiest at night and I feel like that's what typically wakes him up more often than even being hungry.
Any questions? How often are you guys pumping? I've pumped twice but I need to get going on it so that I can actually leave the house sans kids, for my sanity.

sarahandben108 i used a shield with E when i needed to heal and he had no issues switching back. I second trying to still do a feed without it a couple times a day and that did the trick. Defintely use it if yoiu need it. I know I would have gone crazy without it the first go round because my nipples were destroyed and I was in tears at feedings.

veganontuesdays, I haven't started pumping yet but I am going to begin with just once a day in the morning. Supply is better then and with E at the breast all the time during the day I cannot imagine being tied up to my pump too. Then I'll see how it goes. I definitely agree about being able to leave the house without kids. We all need a break.

Thanks officedronette, and veganontuesdays, I may try the nipple shield just to get one side healed at a time. I'm not too confident in another trip to a LC as they keep telling me E's latch looks good. One LC did say she could give me a shield but was reluctant about it. So I wonder, am I sore because his latch still isn't right? Or am I sore because I don't get a chance to heal?

Bottle or breast or combo? Bottle
If bottle: how much/how often? Between 2-4oz every 2-3 hours while awake
What formula are you using? Similac Advance Pro
What bottles are you using? Comotomo and the Avent glass bottles which I love
Longest stretch at night? 5 hours the last two nights - hallelujah!
Any questions? Nope but I want to rep the Baby Brezza for those doing bottles - it's amazing and a middle of the night lifesaver

Bottle or breast or combo? Bottle
If bottle: how much/how often? 4oz every 4 hours or so. 5 or 6 per 24h.
What formula are you using? Nan Pro 1
What bottles are you using? Avent natural
Longest stretch at night? 5 hours and a bit
Any questions? Does anyone else have issues with spillage when feeding? We've tried holding her upright, angling the bottle close to horizontal, forcing her to take breaks, but she spills a lot and ends up soaked despite the bib. Any suggestions to stop it from happening so much?

Bottle or breast or combo? Breast
If bottle: how much/how often? She's only gotten the bottle a couple of times with pumped milk. Not sure how much she will need.
What formula are you using? N/A
If breast: how long per feed/how often? Every 2-3 hours during the day and one or two cluster feeding episodes. Usually one morning and one at night before bed. At night the first stretch is 5-6 hours then it goes back to 3 hours
What bottles are you using? Dr. Brown's. Used them with all 3 kids and haven't had an issue. Pain in the ass to wash but that's why God made dishwashers 😂
Longest stretch at night? 5-6 hours the first stretch only. I only usually get 4 of this tops because of bedtime.
Any questions? I'm dreading pumping. I'm not getting much and I need to. I'm going to start alternating pumping in between her feeds to start producing since I know my supply will go down in 2 weeks when i go back to work. Need to build a stash. Don't mind me. I'll just be tied to my baby and pump for the next 2 weeks.

sarahandben108 - if they've looked at it and think it's good, it really may just be "overuse". My LC told me her latch was good but I still had pain until I used the nipple shield for a few days to heal the ridge she had made in my nipple before she got her shit together. typo31 - Baby Breza seems amazing. I remember when it first came out thinking it was such a good invention.

I was able to get enough for a bottle in a couple days - depending on when you'll need to go back to work you might not need to pump at all (except for when you're pumping because he got a bottle). I'm not as good at using it as I should be and I've gotten five 3oz bottles worth in the *freezer (and have only pumped/replaced 3 times AND had to toss about 5 oz that I hadn't frozen quickly enough). Highly recommend going that route and seeing if it works before trying to add a pump to the routine when you already feel like you're tied to his mouth. 😉

Bottle or breast or combo? Breast but I think this week I will start pumping and introducing a bottle a couple times a week. With dd we did dh feeding her nightly, but he does so much solo with the toddler that doesn’t seem fair. With my milk saver and Haakaa I’ve saved a lot of milk already. Probably 20 or do bags in the freezer. ] If bottle: how much/how often? Not sure, but his weighed feeding at 2 weeks he ate 3.5 oz, so I’ll privably start with a 3 oz bottle paced feeding. If breast: how long per feed/how often? He’s pretty efficient unless really lazy sleepy. Usually 10 mins on each side and sometimes only one side. Still 2.5-3 hrs. What bottles are you using? I plan to use the same glass Avent bottles as we did with DD. Longest stretch at night? 4.25 hrs, but only 1 and he grunts so much due to gas I don’t get the full time between. Any questions? He seems really uncomfortable due to gas recently. I really hope it’s not dietary. but my question is how gassy warrants trying gripe water? And tell me about it. I never had a problem with dd so this is new. But the other night I was bicycling his legs and he was tooting every cycle.

ldubhawksfan, I use over the counter gas drops for infants and it helps. E is pretty good at getting the gas out but there are times when it's obvious he's in some pain. I've used gripe water before with N but not for gas issues. I worried he had reflux for a short while. I don't know if it helped but it certainly didn't hurt.

He nurses, comfort nurses, and cluster feeds constantly so my nipples are being used all day long. It's exhausting and painful at the same time. They never get a break.

@idubhawksfan
I do gas drops and gripe water. Gripe water I add when I feel like the gas drops aren't doing the trick. I use both daily. Gripe water for sure before bed because he has the worst nighttime gas. It's all natural and just fennel seed and ginger extract so nothing chemically or crazy which makes me feel better about giving it so often. A lot of times when give it to him I can literally HEAR it working in his belly. Bubbles, etc. It's weird.

Bottle or breast or combo? Breast but he has taken a bottle once of BM
If breast: how long per feed/how often? We try to wake him every 2-3 hours during the day but he also cluster feeds a lot in the morning and before bed time.
What bottles are you using? So far just the spectra ones
Longest stretch at night? He was going 4 in the RNP but now he will only sleep in the crib and I get 2.5.
Any questions? When will the night time stretches start getting longer?

rooskie, nighttime stretches depends a lot on the kid. N didn't do a 5 hour stretch until he was 12 weeks old. E has given us a 4 hour stretch at 3.5 weeks.

With DD once I got the ok to start stretching her nighttime she quickly went to a 5-6 hours stretch by probably 4 weeks; sleepy girl. DS does not seem to be on track for that though....

Bottle or breast or combo? Primarily breast but supplementing with an extra bottle of breastmilk for one of the babies until she regains her birth weight (at the dr. now for a weight check)
If bottle: how much/how often? Once a day, 2oz
If breast: how long per feed/how often? 10-20 minutes generally every 3 hours
What bottles are you using? Dr. Brown’s preemie
Longest stretch at night? 4 hours
Any questions? Anyone get a milk blister before? I think I had/have one that does seem to he healing on its own. Just curious if anyone has any remedies that helped theirs.

Bottle or breast or combo? Mostly breast but DH gives a little bit of formula if I'm not home.
If bottle: how much/how often? He's only had 3oz at a time, a few times a week. My last kid was a bottle refuser and I spent 15 months running to feed him every 3 hours and 3 months at a feeding clinic so I will do anything to avoid that again.
What formula are you using? Gerber Good Start Gentle.
If breast: how long per feed/how often? 10-15 per side every 3-4 hours. Last night was his first night wanting to cluster feed.
What bottles are you using? Some new Nuk ones with multiple nipple holes. DH tried to invent such a nipple for our last kid. We should have patent it.
Longest stretch at night? I usually get 4 hours at least for the first stretch.
Any questions?
