I'm a fan of the TV universe but have always hated Superman so I wasn't really interested in the movies until this one. Was Chris Pine good? I love him. What did you consider the best parts?

I've especially loved Man of Steel and Bateman v Superman. The beginning of this was just a little too long to me. Chris Pine was excellent! And Gal Gadot is amazing as WW.

Risscaboobs I'm laughing at "Bateman vs Superman" while imagining Jason Bateman going up against the Man of Steel. Lol

I did not love Man of Steel or Batman Vs Superman and I looooooved Wonder Woman! So refreshing to see a female superhero not filmed in an objectifying way. She was sexy, for sure, but not subject to lingering shots of her cleavage or butt or scenes where she gets caught in her underwear by another character, just presented as she is. I also loved that she could be feminine and still strong and powerful. I was worried at first that Gal Gadot would not seem "strong" enough to be WW, but she was fantastic. Great fight scenes and I enjoyed the banter between her and Chris Pine's character and also the other members of their group. My one annoyance was those stupid high-heeled boots! No warrior wears heels into battle, even if they are wedges.

I don't really care about the superheroes (except that iron man / RDJ is hot) but OMG I loved WW!! H said the movie didn't follow her original story well, but since I've not paid any attention to the comics or old cartoons, I don't care.

H said the movie didn't follow her original story well, but since I've not paid any attention to the comics or old cartoons, I don't care. It was a mix of different versions from her comics over the years. In the original story, she was made from clay by Hippolyta and gifted by the goddesses with her powers, but in later comics, they changed her origin to be that she was a demi-god, child of Zeus and Hippolyta. I like that they included both stories and also added in some things to the story. The thing about comics is that they evolve over time, and most characters have their backstories and powers changed. The more modern Wonder Woman, starting with the comics from the 80's, is a lot more badass than the original.

I loved it! I'm not a huge DC fan but this was so well-done. I teared up a few times at how powerful and badass she was. It made me feel feelings.
Chris Pine was great, but his character kind of highlighted to me how shallowly-written most superhero girlfriends usually are. He was allowed to be a 3-dimensional character who was charming, smart, interesting, and heroic in his own right, and he was almost a co-lead. You generally can't say that about female superhero love interests. So we still have a ways to go.

I haven't enjoyed the recent D.C. Movies much, but I loved Wonder Woman! I did think some of the fight scenes got a little too drawn out towards the end. Like, I get that they're raising the stakes and everything, but it seemed like everything stayed at a certain level of intensity a little too long. I'm also not familiar with the comic backstory, so what seemed like complete disregard for the actual myth bugged me a tiny bit. But that's not strictly the movie's fault.
Overall though, really good, and so refreshing to have a strong, independent female hero!

So I just adored this movie, it was wonderfully done. I am so glad they got a woman director for this movie.
I enjoyed that there were no woman objectifying scenes. Star Trek ID is the first thing that comes to mind, where Alice Eve is shown in her underwear for a full ten seconds for no reason what so ever. I was slightly pleased that Chris Pine was the one who was shown in the awkward nude scene. Maybe thats petty but all well.
I loved the costumes too, I thought they were very tasteful. And seeing those woman being badass in that fighting scene on the beach was amazing.
And the No Mans Land scene was so powerful I cried a bit, seeing a woman just charging out with no regard to herself only to save other people just moved me. I also read they were going to cut that scene but the director refused and I am so glad for it. I felt it was such an important scene.
I am so glad that it did so well in theaters but I hate that it doing so well was so important to getting them to make more female centric movies. But I do hope it gives other studios pause when they try to turn down female led flicks. Marvel's fan base is 51% women they need to pull their heads out of their asses. So even though I am not usually not a DC fangirl I really applaud them for taking the chance.

I will say I was reminded a lot of Captain America: The First Avenger, just some of the scenes and elements. But I won't complain because I love that movie and I thought it was really well done.

Ok I want to start off by saying I loved the movie and I am excited about Wonder Woman in future movies. I think she is badass. However I disagree with most about it being a truly feminist movie. Was it necessary to deflect a bullet with her hip right near her ass? Probably not but they did it to show off her butt. 🙄on top of that the scene where they are clearly going to have sex was unnecessary for the plot. And why oh why did she need the love of a man to grow stronger and fight off Aries?!! They could have used the destruction of the town and the lost of innocents as a motivator and gotten the same results. It felt a little like "oh my boyfriend died and I am so hurt that I am going to kick your ass for making it happen." But maybe I am dumb and completely off base.

Sent from my ST1009 using Tapatalk I am super late to this party but I also felt this way after seeing it this weekend. I mean yes it's an origin story set during a war, but I feel like the overall tone (story, effects, visuals/cinematography, etc.) was very similar - in a good way, of course. I loved it, but my absolute favorite part was seeing the teenage girl next to me. She was so damn excited and into it from start to finish. It really hit home to me why a movie like WW is long, LONG overdue.

See, I didn't take it as she was channeling her boyfriend loving her and dying as the motivator. I saw it as though she was seeing that he was choosing good and following her lead of being selfless for the many and so she saw redeeming qualities in humans and had renewed vision to save them.

We just watched this today. I LOVED it. I'm normally a take-or-leave superhero movie girl but this one was excellent. And DD has a new superhero rather than spiderman, so, even better

I'm sitting on your bench, marygracerich. I was bothered that she fell for him at all because WHY. WHAT PURPOSE DID THE ROMANCE SERVE. NONE. It was just yet another reminder that women *need* men. I was frustrated by the movie because everyone had hyped it up so much as this hardcore feminist superhero movie, finally, and yet... she's really the only female character that gets any screen time. And after her comments about how her society had decided that men were wholly unnecessary for pleasure, here she is falling in love with literally the first man she ever sees.I saw the scene the same as marygracerich, where it really, really felt like it was only when her new boyfriend (who she has known for all of ten seconds) died that she found the strength and will to finally fend off Ares. Not her aunt, whom she had known her whole life, dying. Not the loss of her fellow Amazons on the island. Not the town she had JUST SAVED being destroyed for no reason. Nope. It was when a man died that she was finally able to succeed. I am so, so, so over that trope. If they wanted it to be that his sacrifice made her see human beings as selfless, having redeeming qualities, etc. then they needed to get the romance aspect out of it entirely. With the romance in there, forget it.

I was also really disappointed at the potentially interesting villain being completely wasted. I want to know more about Maru/Doctor Poison. What happened to her? What's her conflict? There's an internal struggle there and I want to know where it comes from. Maybe they'll deal with her in another movie (presuming she gets sent to the Amazonian prison island she's sent to in the comics, so she doesn't age... since the movies are now going to jump ahead 80 years for Justice League).

I know I'm way late to this conversation, but I just saw the movie last night and thought it was amazing! misskilljoy, marygracerich, I really didn't read it that way at all (that it was because her boyfriend died that she found strength), I saw it as his sacrifice showed her the deep goodness in humanity, which revitalized her determination to kill Ares, whereas her aunt dying gave her the motivation to help Steve and leave the island, the town dying was, to me, what gave her the final push to not follow Steve's plans anymore and just go after Ares on her own. I liked how they did the romance in this movie, because it wasn't over the top, it was important, but not the focus. I don't think we can expect a movie to 100% ignore all tropes, there still has to be a few of them unfortunately. I do think this was quite a feminist movie, especially for the genre it's in, it's a great step forward and I hope other directors/studios pay attention.
