caitost21 really? I have been seriously considering it because H has been sleeping on the couch and the baby is in bed with me the past few nights. I showed it to him and his eyes bulged at the price, and then I didn’t know if my kid would be too long for it before long. I think a few 017 mamas swear by it. Paging Taitai thatgirlrachel arimaythea if I'm not mistaken

I showed it to him and his eyes bulged at the price, and then I didn’t know if my kid would be too long for it before long. I was skeptical as well but it really has lived up to the hype. She went to only sleeping on me or in bed with me to sleeping on her own completely at night. The regular one is supposed to be good up until 8 months/22 lbs. You can actually unsnap the bottom and open it up for a longer length. It goes from accommodating 29 inches to 34 inches when opening up the bottom. The price tag is hard to swallow. We went with the least expensive option (the all white one). I did end up ordering another cover because you have to air dry it after washing. Honestly so worth it though. I would say if you do buy one, order through Nordstrom. They are great about returns.

cythe been meaning to post for a while but I think you know you're not alone. Your OP reminded me of myself with DS. I was perplexed and stressed about getting him on schedule etc, etc and staying that way but after experiencing it I decided to approach this time around with a fluid mindset with no expectations and thAt has lessened my stress considerably. I think we put so much stock in our expectations over matters out of our control that we get frustrated because it wasn't achieved. At the end of the day baby will do what babies do each in their own way and their own time. After all it's what makes them unique individuals and all that special. Ok I realized this doesn't offer you any help

curmudgeon I have the dockatot and looooove it. I was very skeptical about getting a glorified dog bed for LO, but sleep is so valuable to me, and it works. Really happy I have it. I ordered an extra cover as well. There are ones on sale at the dockatot website. I think I got a cover on sale that was deluxe and not the deluxe plus...totally doesn't matter - fits my DAT just the same.

No schedule here either! We put her in the ergo and walk around to help her go to sleep. She is impossible to put to sleep without it for some reason - hope we aren't creating a bad habit! She is in a rock n play in our room at night and she will start moving and making noise and sometimes let out a cry or 2 but then goes back to sleep then repeat for hours. I'm having trouble deciding if she wants a bottle or not. It's like stay asleep or tell me your hungry kid! I wish we could have a consistent bedtime. When do routines start to come? I remember with my daughter I knew when she would nap and go to bed for the night which made things much easier on me!

Yup, DockATot user here too. We never used it for the baby stage - he bedshared with us without a DockATot from 6 months old to around 20 months. I got the DockATot Grand for DS1 a little after I found out I was pregnant with DS2 and we were weaning. Since he didn't need boob anymore but still slept with us, I wanted him to have a separate section of our bed.
He still uses it now at 2.5 years old. It has helped us with the nap transition to a twin bed I think, as in his room we have a twin mattress on the floor with two foam bumpers under the covers that makes it almost like a really big DockATot. We haven't attempted to transition him to his room for night sleep yet because I didn't want to do that at the same time as introducing baby brother.
I honestly don't mind him sleeping in bed with us though, and I'm not in a rush to get him out. But I know that's not something that most would like. We have a king sized bed and with the DaT Grand it is a bit of a tight fit for the 3 of us, but not so much that it prevents sleep. We also ordered the extra cover just recently when I saw they had some on clearance on the DaT website.
If we transition DS1 out of our bed and decide to bedshare with DS2, we'll definitely use the DaT for it. It feels a little safer to me, though I don't knock bedsharing without one because I did it for over a year.

We have a king as well but H is so wild when he sleeps I’m afraid he will elbow the baby in the face or something. He just moved the crib into our room so we’ll try that before I drop $$ on a DAT. DS1 was sleeping 7 hours consistently at this age. Why can’t all babies realize how wonderful sleep is?

How long can you use a DoT for? It seems small, but you say years? It would be a pity to drop that money on it only to have her outgrow it at this point.
Edit* since E may end up being our only, I can't say that I would be able to use it with a second kiddo

cythe , they make 2 sizes. A DockATot Deluxe is to use up to about 8 months old, then the Grand is bigger to be used from 9 months on. They don't recommend using the bigger size for younger babies, I guess because it doesn't snuggle them like it is intended when they are smaller.

And I don’t know if I’d use it for the remaining 5-6 months the smaller size is good for. I’m hoping to get this kid in his crib permanently around 4 months. The smaller size costs more than my crib did.

I’ve been trying for the past 2.5 hours to get him to sleep. Swaddled, unswaddled, my bed, his bed, swing, RnP, nursing, rocking. Why is he still awake and flailing?

I feel like the DockATot is a purchase you make out of desperation for a sleep solution, because in that state the hit from the cost can be softened by the fact that you really want to sleep. Not a magic answer for everyone, but I feel like a lot of people that I know that got it did so trying to solve a problem, rather than preventatively. It was why I got it for DS1, and since it worked for us I don't regret the money spent on it.

I would say 90% of the things we own related to baby sleep (1000 different brands of swaddles, a white noise machine, a RnP...) are due to this with DD1. Had I known about the DaT with DD1, we’d own one of those too no doubt.

Agree with danvers and arimaythea that the DOT is a desperate resort if you don't have disposable funds. I don't doubt my sister would've ended with one if it was available 10 yrs ago. My nephew slept on her chest for an entire year! She owned probably every kind of swaddle available circa 2007-2010. curmudgeon I'm so sorry you're having such a rough time getting baby to sleep. Sending you all the sleepy dust. Big hugs.

I really don’t know what changed. It was like one day he was fine sleeping in the swing or RnP and the next day he despised it. Last night H slept back in bed and held the baby on his chest half the night, which was nice because I am not a back sleeper so I got some sleep...until he woke me up because I was snoring.
The DAT is sounding really enticing.

curmudgeon sounds like the DAT is short lived? Might be possible to find it used on Craig's list or kids resale if you have one in your area? I'll have to say though most O17 mamas here have convinced me if I was desperate I'd swallow the price tag to get some sleep since I don't function well with lack of. Is baby fussing and crying? Lil fella here usually wakes up upset or hard to put down when he's gassy.

Forgot to add. How old is he? He could be going through a leap? Around I think 8-10 wks there was a week where lil fella hated being on his own and wanted to be held all the time.

Maybe that’s it? When I put him down he never works up to a cry. He will lay there jerking his arms all around and kicking his legs. And he’s not really grunting, I don’t even know how to describe his sounds. Just “Eh eh eh”. And he will do this for hours. Swaddled pisses him off too and he just works to free his arms. Last night I did notice that he settled “quickly” if I kept my hand on his chest. Not even jiggling him, just the weight I think.

He could be learning to discover his hands and legs are attached to his body 😬 I think definitely a transition happening there. I don't remember was baby full term or a bit early? I read that during this time their head circumference increases rapidly. Is he starting to suck his hands? Lil fella started sucking on his hands about this time I think. I also figured out he was bored and begin hanging toys on his playmat and increasing tummy time and he'd quit fussing for a bit. All this and he also started having a "conversation" and being interactive. I would rock Lil fella to sleep sans swaddles first or he'd fight. After he's fast asleep I would swaddle him fast and rock him back to sleep and put him down.

He seems to like tummy time more and really likes interactive toys now. Will laugh and smile at them. Sigh. I’ll keep waiting it out.

Yeah I'd say he's in a discovery transition. Lil fella started to be awake longer like 2+ hours and I noticed around a couple wks ago would have a power nap for like 30-45 mins before waking up screaming his lungs to eat. Just a couple of days ago I'm having to rouse him since our pedi said to not let him go beyond 4 hrs or he'll get his days and nights confused

Sleep question about the older child: My 2.5 year old will not go to sleep (nap or at night) without one of us (usually me) laying on the floor next to her crib. She has her white noise and her projector on (fish onto the ceiling), but if we try to leave the room whle she is still awake she completely looses it. Crying, ear piercing screaming, basically hysterical. She was putting herself to bed for over a year and it was right around her second birthday (this July) that she started wanting us there. Sometimes we even need to hold her hand through the crib slats.
We cannot keep doing this. It takes 1-1.5 hours each night to get her to bed. I really don't want to let her CIO but I don't know what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions/has anyone else dealt with this??

parma986 DS1 is 2 yrs 9 mos and he also needs someone next to him to go to sleep. He is in a twin bed which is set super low to the ground on a platform bed frame, and it normally takes 15-20 min of lying next to him before DH can sneak away back into our room. We tried CIO with DS1 a few times and it was so horrible - he scream/cries to a point where he makes himself puke. I can't handle that, so we are just keeping on with what we are doing until he gets old enough to talk about and really understand the importance of falling asleep on his own. Also - FWIW - where we live (and in Asia in general) it's actually quite rare for kids to sleep on their own. Most don't do that until grade school at the earliest. All my local friends think it's "cruel" that we have DS1 in his own room/bed at 2.5. I guess being surrounded by that has also changed my attitudes towards sleeping arrangements for babies/kids 🤷♀️

No matter what I do, my kid takes a nap at bedtime. Doesn't matter what time I put her to "bed", 45-60 minutes later there she is. We've done the same routine since like 4w, only the time varies since she is still unpredictable as far as a hard schedule goes. If I put her to bed at 7, she's up at 8 and then down for good at 9. If I put her to bed at 9, she's up at 10 and down for good at 11.
SHE IS SMARTER THAN I AM.

parma986, DS1 did the same thing a month before he turned 2, and we did the sleep lady shuffle. Right now we sit outside his door, but we can go do other things and just check in in him regularly.

Last night was so much better. I know it may not happen again but we actually got sleep without a baby touching us. I swaddled him in a much thicker blanket (no arms) and he slept flat in our bed from 9-3:30-6:30. He didn’t thrash, he didn’t make noise. I’m going to repeat tonight and see if this blanket is magic or something.

parma986 - we did Harvey Karp's "wait wait" with DS1 and used mommy-tickets that we slowly reduced right about that age. It took a little while, but it worked. He's a great sleeper now, and I love just tucking the bigs into bed and walking away - it's amazing. www.happiestbaby.com/blogs/blog/toddler-sleep-training

This may have already been suggested, but IIRC the Zen swaddle has a weighted middle section to mimic mama's hand on baby's chest. If he settles when you do that, you may consider picking one up. We went with the Loves to Dream swaddle, and other than the past few nights I mentioned in the Randoms thread this morning, DS is sleeping 8pm to 6am most nights.
