I hope L feels better soon mskatiep . What a shame if she is feeling bad for Xmas. And congrats on the promotion! Thank you! That's why we started the tamiflu without an actual positive test, didn't want her to miss Christmas! Did she have a high fever? The pedi tested H for the flu since his temp was so high.

Congrats mskatiep !! Will you still be at the same post where you are currently? We remember our time there fondly, although the Army loves to say about it, "It's the best year of your lives!!" and all the Navy people felt like that might be pushing it *juuuust* a bit Yes, same organization, same office, just a different job. I really do love it at this post, and I can totally see how CGSC can be the best year of their career, half day school and full pay lol. Sounds good to me! Ha! Yeah, and they're not in a war zone, lol.

Ok, I'm not crazy! The breaker to the water heater tripped again. This house...I swear. Did I tell y'all the roofer recommended that the roof needs to be replaced? So that will be lovely. Thankful I am not paying for all this!

I think as parents we overthink a lot of things. When I was a kid, December 1 was the cutoff for K. Now it's October 1. By old standards, my August baby wasn't young but by the new ones, he was. Yes, K got harder but that is why they moved the cut off. I think I'm happy when my August kid was able to start K, we were too poor to afford another year of preschool (that would be the option if we hadn't sent him to K). That prevented me from over thinking all the "you had a preterm baby boy in the summer, clearly he can't handle K yet" comments of others. I figured if K was a disaster, he would repeat (it wasn't, he's killing it in 5th grade now.) T is now the absolute oldest in pre-k 3 and he calls the other kids babies. With the exception of a very small group of kids, most are going to be fine just going by local rules and their birthdays.

My bday is at the end of the summer so I got the milestone bdays after most of my friends. I’m sure you will all remember how piercings became very popular while we were in HS. I wanted my belly button done so bad but my father wouldn’t let me. I had to wait til I was in college when I finally turned 18. Also bars- had to wait until the start of my senior year in college. That was tough. Everyone feel sorry for me. 😋 I mean, I just got a fake ID when I turned 18 but I wouldn't advise my kids or yours to do the same. Lol! No I won’t be telling B or C about fake IDs. I had a horrible one that worked at the college bars, but I wouldn’t try it anywhere else and def not in a liquor store.

You guys and your fake IDs are killing me, lol. I never had a fake, my brother is 4 years older than me, so he or his friends, or one if my friends was always dating someone of age, to buy for us.
I managed to sprain my ankle in my office this afternoon. I stepped wrong on the base of my chair and it rolled in, then popped back out. Fucking hurt. I hate having weak ankles.

No one really mentions C being gifted ::shruggy guy:: Just high energy and no fear. I'm glad he will have an extra year before kindergarten. His writing is backwards, all over the page and often upside down. He also is still a touch behind in speech so it's good to have the extra time to catch up.

Did anybody chalk their licenses? That was a thing when I was in college. Please tell me more. I've never heard of this. Before everything became all fancy with holograms, you could take the color of your license (New York's was yellow), chalk (actual blackboard chalk) over the last number of your year of birth and then go in with the pencil and change the date. So my '77 could easily become a '71, or with a much more skilled hand a '74. Sometimes you also had to chalk in the under 21 on the side, as well.

My boyfriend at the time was 21, do it was really just to be able to get into clubs and bars with him. He got me the license.

I just threw away 4 beautiful honeycrisp apples because there is a big apple recall due to possible listeria exposure. Of course now all I want is an apple and peanut butter.

I shared a fake ID with 3 friends, like we passed it back outside to get in bars. It was a bad one and even when I was 17, I looked 13. I think no one cared back then. Suddenly, when we were 20, we couldn't get into places we were getting into at 17.
Nj licenses were profile pictures when you were under 21 so we could doctor them.

Pouring one out for your honeycrisps wineallthetime. I'm cracking up at you bad girls and tour fake IDs and chalking. I was such a goodie goody. I didn't even drink until a couple months after my 21st birthday. So consider that with your research guster--with total nerds it may not matter if you're the youngin of the group.

December bday, so I'm one of the oldest in my grade cutoff was jan. I was a head taller than all the boys freshman year, but they caught up over that summer. I did drive first which was lovely and was glad I wasn't the last to turn 21. Puberty...well I was a late bloomer overall in middle school, so that wasn't an issue for me..

Maybe because I grew up in a small town, we never tried to go to the bar underage. We always drank at someone's house or went to the lake or sat somewhere and drank. Driving to Kansas City was too far in all of our shit cars!

School cut-off here is Sept. 30 (at home, it's Sept. 1), so either way, B will start K in fall 2019. I was 5-turning-6 when I started Kindergarten, also, so I'm good with it. I think the stakes are a lot higher in K now than when I was a kid, so I'm not in a rush for him to be tied to a desk all day.
Regarding the "gifted" thing, I have always understood (at least in FL) that the ‘gifted and talented’ label was for students who show an exceptional aptitude for certain subjects or whatever—not just that the child is super smart. I'm sure there are variations by state; in FL the kids are tested in early elementary, I believe. I think Bradley is pretty bright, but at this point I would be hard-pressed to predict he’ll be ‘gifted’.
There was a kid in my HS graduating class who was a couple years younger than the rest of us. He was literally brilliant and could definitely hack it academically, but was kind of awkward and socially immature in many ways. That would have been a really tough call to make as a parent, I think.

He was literally brilliant and could definitely hack it academically, but was kind of awkward and socially immature in many ways. That would have been a really tough call to make as a parent, I think. Pete was very behind when he was in Kindergarten. I mean very. Limited English skills, letter recognition, speech, everything was not where it should have been. He never went to preschool or Pre-K, and was always home with his mom who spoke broken English. They never did any special things to make sure he knew his alphabet or could write, nothing like that. He's no genius or anything but he did graduate third in his HS class. If you had the two of us together in a class in early elementary, you would have predicted I'd do very well in school, and he wouldn't. The opposite was true. I had a big advantage over him because I had been in an "academic" preschool and private school for kindergarten and first. And English was the only language spoken in my home. It's just hard to know at this age what the next 13-15 years are going to bring.

She can’t write her name yet, mispronounces lots of words, etc. I have no interest in her starting K before 2019. ETA: she can count to 15 which impressed her teacher, so maybe she’ll be good at math.

I’m on the goodie-two-shoes bench. The first time I got drunk was when I was 19, and it was few and far between after that. In HS we had “parties” at my friends’ houses but there was never any alcohol. Karaoke, pool, movies and things like that.
