Does anyone have recipe recommendations that freeze well? I don’t have much freezer meal experience. I find I forget about things, they cook funny and getting a lot prepped seems taxing. I’ve started nesting and am almost 3rd tri so think I should take advantage of my motivation.
I didn’t prep meals before birth last time but see the appeal having a toddler to feed this time around.
Thoughts? Tips? I’ll take them all.

Not really a freezer meal per se but I plan on making and freezing a lot of marinara sauce so we can just defrost and make some pasta.
Last time my parents were great about making us a bunch of food so I'm hoping they'll repeat that.
Also, frozen pizza. The Archer Farms brand from Target is really good.
I lived on frozen waffles for days afterwards last time.

babybean I was just thinking about this! I’m hoping you all have some good recommendations. I’m not a huge fan of cooking, so the more I can get done now the better.

We grilled a LOT last time since it was summer and that was so easy to make quickly. Just browning up some ground turkey or beef or making shredded chicken and freezing that in family meal sized portions was hugely helpful.
I think we’ll probably pre-make soup and freezer those: - Italian meatball with chicken and veggies - zesty sausage and spinach (a knock off version of the Zuppa toscana at Olive Garden) - chicken noodle - easy ground turkey chili - lentil soup - baked potato soup - crab and corn chowder
I like soups bc I can put enough veggies in there that I don’t need to be bothered with a side.

I made three types of muffins and frozen them last time around. They were great for snacking on in the couple of weeks after birth. I'm definitely doing that again.
I also froze a hamburger soup, chili, and lasagna. My parents took care of a lot of the cooking too, so that was nice.

i usually have the most luck with soups and chili. i’ll probably start making double batches on weekends and freezing half. i’ve done chili, white chicken chili, chicken wild rice, vegetarian quinoa chili. i think they freeze pretty well. i’ll probably also do some lasagna and maybe some meatballs and marinara. i hadn’t thought about muffins or other breakfasts last time, but i would like to try freezer breakfast burritos.

What do you put the soups in to freeze them? Or any freezer meal for that matter. Are there certain containers you find work best?

i just use tupperware or my mom has a foodsaver vacuum sealer that i will sometimes use for soups or crockpot dump meals. i buy disposable aluminum trays for lasagna and put foil over the top with a 2 gallon ziplock bag (that will fit a 9x13 pan)

I use gallon freezer bags and freeze them flat. I line them up on the shelf standing in my freezer.

Re: breakfasts DH and I have made a ton of breakfast burritos (turkey breakfast sausage or bacon, eggs, and cheese) and wrapped them individually in wax paper to freeze. It was stupid easy and we were both surprised they tasted really fresh.

Leaf 🌱 did you have a specific recipe for the burritos or did you just kind of wing it?

Leaf 🌱 did you have a specific recipe for the burritos or did you just kind of wing it? just wing it. We did smallerflour tortillas and just let the eggs cool before making the burritos. Seriously the easiest thing ever. I don’t know why we don’t do it every week. As far as portion sizes we just planned on 1.5-2 eggs per tortilla and just split the tube (ew) of sausage (no casing) evenly. It’s really up to you.
