well if Mr. Gohmert wants Comey's memo leak to be illegal, then shouldn't the leaking of Peter Strzok's text messages be illegal?

new rule: everybody in Congress has to let us see all of their text messages. And anyone who has anti-Hillary nonsense gets fired.

Rosenstein: the FBI doesn't investigate groups based on their ideology or their first amendment related views. We only investigate them on the basis of a propensity for violence.
Rep Bass: then explain the investigation into Black Lives Matter and labelling of such groups as "black identity extremist groups" and the mass distribution of the documentation relating to that investigation to law enforcement offices across the country
Rosenstein: I really don't know why or how that happened. I haven't seen any evidence that the FBI is approaching anything like that in a biased way. They are only investigating groups that they consider a specific threat.
Bass: I'm hearing from activists around the country that the FBI is visiting them, but they're afraid that talking to the FBI is a trap. And none of the people being visited by the FBI have been involved in any violence.
rosenstein: I'm not aware of any of that.
Bass: When you circulate a document around the country that falsely creates a group called "Black Identity Extremists," you're setting up predicate for peaceful protesters of police brutality to be treated as violent extremists
Rosenstein: I'll review that document. We don't investigate or prosecute peaceful protesters."
Bass: Then let's just do away with that classification entirely.
YOU GO KAREN BASS!

Jim Jordan is still obsessed with the Steele Dossier. He calls it discredited (it's not). And for some reason he's shouting quite aggressively at Rod Rosenstein.

I think it should be stated "a PRIVATE text message between Strzok and Page"
because it WAS PRIVATE and not for PUBLIC consumption.

Peter Strzok wrote, "We can't take the risk [that Trump gets elected]. We have to do something." then, as head of FBI Counterintel, he, you know, did his job and participate in the activities required as part of his job. This makes Jim Jordan want to speak in shouty caps

I mean, look, I get it. If the shoe were on the other foot, I'd probably be less than impressed that the head of Counterintel at the FBI was texting about how much he hated hillary while investigating her or her opponent. But this is all well beyond the pale.

Jordan: YOU MUST ALL DDIDIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEE

Rep Jeffries: Isn't it true that the majority of FBI employees are registered Republicans and hold Conservative leaning views?
Rosenstein: It may be true but I wouldn't want to speculate on the political positions of employees.
Jeffries: Why the hell did these texts get leaked?
Rosenstein: I'm concerned about that too. We want to make clear to Congress and the puplic that we aren't concealing anything on the basis of it being embarassing to the FBI.
Jeffries: Ok well....is it appropriate to leak evidence in an ongoing investigation to reporters?
Rosenstein: Sometimes.

Jeffries: How is it possible that a Fox News reporter has over 10,000 of Strzok's text messages and this committee only has 350?
Rosenstein: yeah well...Fox News says that....
Jeffries: but wouldn't leaking evidence to a reporter violate DOJ policies and procedures?
Rosenstein: Yes if it's inappopriate for release (?)

Rosenstein is saying that, despite Trump doing whatever it is that he does, the professionals at the DOJ are just that, professional, and they will not be persuaded to do or not do anything bc of what he may say or tweet.

Rosenstein: I'm not even from Baltimore. But no, that doesn't mean I can't be impartial.

Rosenstein has served under 3 presidents, Republican and Democrat, and has never been asked for any kind of loyalty pledge, nor would it be appropriate for POTUS to ask a DOJ official for any kind of loyalty pledge. You don't say.
