We do a real tree for the big tree. But we also have two small tabletop fake trees, and will add another next year.
Trees. All the trees.

I was all about a real tree when MH and I got married (having grown up exclusively with fake).
However.
One year, our real tree had tenants.
I was ready to cancel Christmas when I discovered them.
I haven't trusted a real tree since.
I finally got my "Never will I ever have a fake tree" husband to cave this year.
I'm happy, therefore we are ALL happy.

I like the smell and look of a real tree. However, my carpet and my sanity appreciate being pest and needle free.

boxerific and hawkward ummmm WTF??? Is this something you wouldn't know about ahead of time? What type of tenants? Now I'm nervous. Am I safe if it's been below freezing outside for a while before we got it?

Team Real Tree over here. It's a fun tradition that I brought into the marriage with me from my family and we have fun with it every year, despite the mess.

Am I safe if it's been below freezing outside for a while before we got it? I’m from an area that gets cold enough to kill pests, but I’ve heard more than one horror story of spiders and other bugs in trees. Now that we live somewhere warmer I’m not willing to take the risk!

I love the smell of real trees and that is what DH and I grew up with, so that’s what we do. Fake trees do look amazingly realistic these days though!

Am I safe if it's been below freezing outside for a while before we got it? I always thought it was safe because they would do the whole shake the tree thing, but evidently not. Maybe it was a particularly warmer year? I don't know. But I do know that it was a nightmare.

My fake tree was $5 at a garage sale and came in the original box labeled from 1950 or 60 something. +1 for the environment! It's small and lean-y (DH is on that), but it replicates my favorite type of evergreen bush (few branches, but still looks dense with long and lush firm needles). It's what fits in my teeny house so my dream is to use it forever!

We have a fake tree that is prelit and be white or colored lights with the touch of a button. I love it!
