Hi there! My husband did a ton of research on what diet he wanted to do, he finally settled on the Keto diet (although he is not as extreme as a lot of people on their reddit). Well, after three months, and watching him lose 60 pounds, I decided to join in on the low carb life (which for the pasta/dessert lover is extremely crazy). Anyways, I have lost almost 10 lbs in two weeks (my goal is about 75) and I wanted to see if any women here are doing anything similar! Is this ok to post here!? It was a REAL challenge the first week and I was going to quit but have persevered and I it’s getting easier (I found some awesome recipes). I would love to share some stories! Thanks!!

I have been followimg a Keto WOE for the last year and have lost 85 lbs. I have found it to be the easiest weight loss of any diet I have tried. I believe my "off switch" is broken when I eat highly processed carbs in particular and Keto helps me deal with that. I hope to follow a lower carb / whole food plan for the rest of my life. Some resources I recommend- 2 Keto dudes podcast, Keto subreddit, ketogenicforums.net .

I am SUPER curious about Keto. Can I be lazy and ask you questions instead of falling down the rabbit hole? If so, my first question is what does a typical daily menu/meal list look like for you?

I am SUPER curious about Keto. Can I be lazy and ask you questions instead of falling down the rabbit hole? If so, my first question is what does a typical daily menu/meal list look like for you? Breakfast: chorizo and eggs or Hard boiled egg and bacon Lunch: Salami, string cheese and hard boiled eggs or wings with franks red hot or a chipotle burrito bowl with double chicken and no rice or beans! Dinner: homemade pizza (almonds flower crust with fresh mozerella) or burgers or leftovers! Dessert: cream cheese peanut butter balls YUM!!! I won’t lie and say I did have cravings (and still do two weeks in) but the progress is making it so worth it!! ETA: Please ask me anything! I’m still learning but I would love to talk more about it!!

Sorry I disappeared! I don’t think I have notifications on so I thought I was alone in my Keto journey lol! I am also doing it because with my second kid, I had GD and I know that increases my risk for T2D by about 60% and if I can either eliminate that risk or stave it off for awhile longer, it would be great!

midnight what recipe do you use for pizza crust? Oh so yummy! 1.5 cup shredded mozzarella cheese 3/4 cup almond flour 1 tsp white wine vinegar 1 egg 1/2 tsp salt Mix altogether. You then lay it out into a cookie sheet and bake for 12 minutes. Add toppings and bake another 15 minutes (I did salami, low sugar tomato sauce, and loads of cheese)!

I should hire my mom to cook for me. She eats paleo and knows how to do it. Also, she has the time.

midnight , what are the forbidden foods. I mean, obviously carbs, but lay it out for me. Spaghetti squash ok? Cauliflower? Fruit? #lazybutcurious Here is a quick list. -Sugar. It’s typically found in soda, juice, sports drinks, candy, chocolate, and ice cream. Anything that’s processed and sweet you can think of most likely contains sugar. Avoid sugar at all costs. -Grains. Any wheat products (bread or buns), pasta, cereal, cakes, pastries, rice, corn, and beer should be avoided. This includes whole grains like wheat, rye, barley, buckwheat, and quinoa. -Starch. Avoid vegetables (like potatoes and yams) and other things like oats, muesli, etc. Some root vegetables are okay in moderation – be sure to read the section on vegetables. -Trans Fats. Margarine or any other spreadable replacement butter should be avoided as they contain hydrogenated fats (bad for us). -Fruit. Avoid any large fruits (apples, oranges, bananas) as they’re extremely high in sugar. Some berries can be consumed in moderation – be sure to read the section on fruits. -Low-fat foods. These tend to be much higher in carbs and sugar than full-fat versions. Make sure you read the package to make sure a mistake isn’t made.

I am trying out the Keto diet as well so I’m loving this thread. My cousin was helpful but reddit is a scary place for me so haven’t checked out the link he gave me. I can’t seem to find the cloud bread recipe, could you share the link?

I still have around 20 net carbs per day (if the item is packaged I look at total carbs and subtract fiber, if there is any). I stick so low because I’m sure I’m eating hidden carbs with some things. I know my husband eats cucumbers and avocados (they have some carbs, I believe, but a lot of the good fat). I have just started looking into spaghetti squash and it looks like there may be some good low carb options but I will need to delve deeper into their ingredients before I try making any of it!

I read a little bit last night, but the fasting sounds way too intense for me. Are y'all really just drinking keto coffee in the morning and eating nothing until dinner?

I do not fast, I just stick to under 20 grams of carbs for the day. I actually eat a lot and still am losing weight (though as my body adjusts, my appetite has waned). I don’t think I would be a good faster, hanger and all that.

Has anyone done the keto thing, then transitioned out? This would not be a good long term diet for me, but I could see doing it for a month. If I transitioned back to a healthy diet, but with more carbs from fruits and veggies, would the weight come rushing back?

From what I have read, no the weight won’t come rushing back on but you will kick your body out of “ketosis” and it will become difficult to lose weight quicker. Now, I don’t know all the science behind it, so I may be off but the die hard redditors I’ve seen, say this stuff!

As long as you are staying within a reasonable caloric intake, no, you will not suddenly gain a lot of weight. For those doing it for weight loss and not to assist with another condition, it is nothing more than a framework for how to limit calories.
