How old is LO? 5 days How's everything going? Good, my milk came in day 3 so she's struggling a little bit with OALD esp on the right side, but she's doing great and latches like a champ. Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? 0-1mo: What is something about your newborn(s) that surprised you? How quickly she latched. I think it took a couple hours with DS to get him to so it's been a nice change. lildiamondeyes I'm with you on forgetting things. I was like..."wait, how do you burp her?" GTKY: do you have a comfort book/movie/tv show you ready for when you're down? What is it? Sitcoms like the Office, Friends, etc. I like to watch them to go to sleep.

How old is LO? 3 months + 1 week
How's everything going? Just chugging along. DS consistently nursing motn and early morning when we are cuddling in bed. Other then that, he refuses to nurse.
Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? Is there such a thing as pumping too long per session? For me to pump until empty as in no more drops, it takes 40-50mins. Is it ok to go passed 20-30mins per session?
0-1mo: What is something about your newborn(s) that surprised you?
1-3mo: Nursing in public: questions, experiences, anecdotes?
If you're pumping, how is that going? When are you returning to work, or are you SAH? Returning to work March 2018.
GTKY: do you have a comfort book/movie/tv show you ready for when you're down? What is it? Not really. When I'm down music helps me get to a better moods. Jack Johnson, Monsters and Men and Metric are my favorites right now.
ETA just realized I should be moving on to the next check in. Where did my newborn go!!?? 💔

How old is LO? 1 month old
How's everything going? Overall well, doing better with dealing with OALD
Questions/concerns/cute stories to share- More funny then cute, but while side lying last night DD3 managed to somehow to aim my shooting milk at my face so I got a face full of milk instead of her
Nursing in public: questions, experiences, anecdotes? The nursing is going well, leaving a trail of nursing pads behind is another story....
If you're pumping, how is that going? When are you returning to work, or are you SAH? I go back to work at the end of July. I'll start pumping around 6 weeks to put some in the freezer
GTKY: do you have a comfort book/movie/tv show you ready for when you're down? What is it? The old movies that are always on...dirty dancing, foot loose, etc

mikaela20 congrats on moving to the next check in :-) as long as pumping that long isn't damaging your nipples or driving you crazy, it's fine. You can try pumping just for 30min and seeing if there's a noticeable change in output or if you get about the same amount. If you want.

]How old is LO? 6 days old How's everything going? I think it's going well. I think I have an OALD and he gets super frustrated and pulls back a lot. I've been having to unlatch and relatch. Another thing I've been trying is pulling him off and burping him, resting for a few minutes and then trying again.
Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? This is my 2nd time and I struggled with production the first time. I want to avoid that this time. Any tips for increasing supply? Also, please remind me that the sore nips go away. I don't have bruising or cracking or blisters- I've been focusing a lot of getting a good latch but I'm still really sore!
What is something about your newborn(s) that surprised you? He is very very chill. He seriously has only cried when he wants to eat, then he is just either *looking* around or sleeping.
Nursing in public: questions, experiences, anecdotes? I NIP yesterday. I made H take me to lunch because I was going stir crazy at home and the DD was at school.
If you're pumping, how is that going? When are you returning to work, or are you SAH? Not pumping yet. I plan to go back at 10-12 weeks. When should I start pumping?
GTKY: do you have a comfort book/movie/tv show you ready for when you're down? What is it? I like watching friends or some other mindless show.

ccp skin to skin and nursing on demand are the best ways to set up a healthy supply. The more nursing the better. Yes the sore nips go away. A good nipple cream applied often can help (lanolin, coconut oil, earth mama angel baby nipple butter, etc) In general it's recommended to wait until 6 weeks to begin pumping. At minimum, 4 weeks or after the 3 week growth spurt.

How old is LO? 9 days
How's everything going? We are breastfeeding, supplementing with formula, and pumping trying to increase my supply while keeping his weight up. He started gaining yesterday and the amount I pump is increasing each day so I'm hoping we'll be able to ditch the formula soon. We are also dealing with a potential tongue tie for which he is getting evaluated next week. Nursing on my left breast is pretty painful.
Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? He has been so fussy at the breast since yesterday, screaming and refusing to latch for a couple of minutes. He eventually does latch and does fine but I don't know why he fights it so much.
0-1mo: What is something about your newborn(s) that surprised you? He has smelly farts.
If you're pumping, how is that going? When are you returning to work, or are you SAH? I'm pumping to increase supply and also since it's too painful to let him nurse on the left every time. It's going pretty well and I am able to substitute 3 formula feedings with pumped milk.
GTKY: do you have a comfort book/movie/tv show you ready for when you're down? What is it? I don't have anything in particular.

piratecat sorry for the rough start! Hopefully the root issue is the tongue tie and it's fixed asap. Fussing at the breast is super hard to figure out from this side of the internet but here's some thoughts. -he's overly hungry by the time he gets to the breast. Do more skin to skin so the breast is available when he wants it. Skin to skin also increases supply. -bottle flow preference, if you're supplementing with a bottle. The younger the baby, the more likely they develop flow preference. You can supplement using another method ( link) - SNS will also provide nipple stimulation which can help supply, cup feeding uses muscles and jaw motion more similar to nursing than a bottle. That link has good descriptions and some more options. If you are using a bottle, it is imperative that you pace feed. Paced feeding is about how you feed a bottle, not when, as baby should always be fed on demand. linkYou can try breast compressions when he initially latched to speed flow. If you think that helps but not enough, hand expressing or pumping until let down and then latching can give an instant gratification like the bottle. -if only having trouble on left side, is it because of nipple anatomy or because he's having a hard time turning his head that way? Do you notice he can turn his head when not nursing, or does he mostly keep it to the opposite side? Hopefully that was coherent; we're heading out of town so I'm a little scattered. You're doing great. Be kind to yourself. It's fantastic your pump output is increasing.

lily I think he is sometimes overly hungry and fussy but not always. I try to do the compressions once he's latched but sometimes he just doesn't want to latch - he'll have his mouth wide open over the nipple but screams when I try to help him latch on. He does favor his head to one side over the other but the fussing at the breast happens on both sides. (The LC thinks that my left nipple is shorter than the right which may explain why it is more painful. I've tried both cross cradle and football hold and he's seen an osteopath to try and correct his neck and pelvis.) We are currently finger feeding with a syringe and tube, which is working ok. I'm reading about other methods in the link you posted - there is so much information! I am intrigued by the cup feeding but is there reason to avoid bottle feeding even with paced feeding? Is there still risk of nipple confusion and trouble switching to breastfeeding full time? Thanks for taking the time to respond.
