Can I go ahead and open this potential can of worms?
I'm curious who is/isn't planning to get the flu shot this year. I'm as pro-vax as they come, including with the flu shot yearly for our family, but I admit I panicked and declined when my OB brought up getting it at my appt this week. I hadn't even thought about it yet, but PGAL brain overrode everything else and I told her I'd get it at or before my next appt.
I ended up on the CDC's website just to reassure myself and they've noted a recent study where the flu shot was linked to increased miscarriage risk (I'm abbreviating, FYI) and they're investigating further. It's a single study, and they're still recommending that pregnant women get the flu shot, but I'd be lying if I said I'm not hesitating on this one.
What are your thoughts and plans on the flu shot this pregnancy?

I'm pro-vax on basically everything but the flu shot. The last time I got it, I ended up being sick more often and worse than I ever had. I tend to fare better when I let my immune system take care of it. Based on that study you posted- I don't know. Flu shot is difficult to study (I think?) because it changes every season based on the strains they think will be present.
So basically - im not personally getting it but if you work in an industry where you may be exposed, it might be a good idea if you're concerned? Depending if you're more concerned over catching the flu vs the risks of the flu shot.
Wow I'm really no help.

Yep, I'm getting it along with the rest of my family. DD2 is immune compromised (she has chronic Neutropenia). Pregnant or not, I will be getting it. 😉

Healthcare workers are pretty much required to get the flu shot. I'm just bummed that I can't take ibuprofen to prevent the sore arm afterwards.

Always get it. I’m asthmatic and work with kids so I’d be pretty stupid not to. DNW to end up in hospital with pneumonia from flu or worse. The flu has been horrendous here this year.
********TW*********
It’s flu season here and a pregnant woman recently had to be put in an induced coma from her flu and her baby delivered by emergency c section. That was three ish weeks ago and she’s still in a coma.

I have never had the flu and don't really want to start pregnant... I got it with the last one and will again, my last practice waited until second tri to give. We live in a really warm climate so I don't mind as much here (no clue if that is true or not) but I will want to have it before we go home for the holidays. LO too, her pedi doesn't have it in yet, but I'll take her when they do, I'm guessing I'll get mine at my next appt bc I'll be 16 weeks

I usually never get it but I got it last pregnancy and will get it this time. My work has a health fair usually in October so I'll probably get it then, unless my midwife offers it before.

I got mine at my OB spot Wednesday. I also got one when I was pregnant with DS. I work in the schools and my husband works at a hospital, so I definitely didn't think twice about getting mine. I need to figure out when DS's doctors office is having their flu shot clinic so he can get one.

My job requires a flu vaccine so I will be getting one in the next few weeks. I got one with DD when I was 8w pregnant, too. My OB doesnt carry vaccines in office so I will likely just do the one my job offers unless it isn't preservative free. Then I'll have to go to Walgreens/CVS.

Should I have mentioned that I was already in 2nd Tri when I got it? Also working for volunteer ambulance adds to our reasons to get it.

I was offered it last week, but was in a rush, so I'll get it in mid-October. I love vaccines.

Even though I already had the flu this season I will definitely be getting the vaccine when it is available. I think the vaccine last year wasn't very effective with covering the current strains in our area and that is why I got sick. Before that I hadn't had the flu in a decade (before I started getting the vaccine).

It's helpful to hear everyone's thoughts. I'm a SAHM so it's not a job-related concern, but we'll be traveling to the Midwest for two weeks at Christmas as always, and I'm sure the flu shot would be good for my whole family to have, per usual. I think I may just wait until I'm solidly in second tri before getting it. whatsit My understanding is that the flu vaccine is difficult to study because it changes year-to-year, like you said. I don't put a ton of weight on one single study, but it was enough to give me pause and maybe consider bringing up with my OB just to hear the reassurance from her. I believe the CDC is saying the risk of complications from the flu is still higher than the risk of m/c. I've had generally mixed results with the flu shot and its effectiveness, and I can understand why others who have had the same would decide to forgo getting it.

I got so sick last September with what could have been the flu. This year DS and I got them as soon as we could. Bonus for the $5 Target gift card. I'm sending my husband there to get one too even though he "never gets sick." False.

I got the flu shot once and I felt horrible afterwards. I was so nauseous and light headed that I passed out while sitting on the toilet.
I haven't had the shot since, but I did get a horrible bout of the flu last year. This year I'm working with a group of medically fragile people so I don't think I have a choice.
I haven't had my DS get it either because he was breastfeeding and not in daycare so I felt like he would be fine (and he was.) So even though I'm pro-vaccine, I'm not too sure about the flu shot.

I'm definitely getting it. I have to have it for work, but even if it wasn't mandatory, I would sign up for it. I'm pro-vax to the max.

I love this! I am also pro-vax to the max. Flu shots pass immunity on to babies, which having a baby born in March, I'm definitely attentive to. If a flu vax reduces the risk of getting it even a little bit, or reduces the severity of the flu even a little bit, then it is worth it!
I personally don't think people are as scared of the flu as they ought to be. It can be very, very serious. TW-- My neighbor's son passed from the flu a number of years ago. He was only 8 or 9, and otherwise healthy. It isn't just a cold or garden variety respiratory infection, you know?

I got the flu a few years ago the one year I didn't get the flu shot and I thought I was going to die, it was horrible. Ever since then everyone in my household gets the shot, I will be getting mine next week. The flu is no joke.

As someone who has had multiple miscarriages, I've gotten the flu shot with every single one of my successful pregnancies, and I plan to this time as well.
If you're worried, you can ask for the preservative free version.
I also have an asthmatic kid, who when he gets a cold he's stuck on the nebulizer every four hours - so we all get vaccinated for flu.
Also, side note - i'll get DTAP again once I'm in my third tri.

I'm also a mostly-vax person. All the things...except I rarely get flu.
I was/am planning to get the flu vaccine this year because I'm pregnant, however. Our flu season starts in October, so I might get it today, I might get it next month. But I hadn't really heard about m/c risk until now. So I'll probably ask my OB when she thinks the best time to get it done is. But the plan is to do it, for the first time in awhile. Probably will insist my husband gets it, too.

I'm pro-vax, especially since having DS. I'll get my mine at my next OB visit, and DS will get his at his well check in Oct. And then I'll remind DH eleventy times to get his, which he will probably finally remember to do as flu season is winding up.

I have to get it for work. But regardless I would be getting it. Technically we are already in the window to get them so I just need to find out where/when. I have a couple of OB appts in the next two weeks so I imagine they will offer it then. Either that or I am sure there are flu shot fairs at work. DH is getting his for the first time this year and we have already discussed asking grandparents to get it. We told his mom and stepdad last night and they were all for it which made me happy. Our baby will be being born in the height of flu season here so it's important to me that we all have it.

I'm getting it. I just had an awful cold and barely survived with morning sickness + cold. I'm too much of a sissy to get the actual flu. Stick me with all the needles.

I've never had the flu and don't want to mess around with getting it. Two toddlers in two different schools means double exposure!
Always go for the single dose vial. Those are preservative (mercury) free. The multi-dose vials have to contain preservatives to keep it sterile.
I got the flu shot with both my girls in 2nd tri and no issues. This LO will be closer end of 1st tri bc of April due date

Just got it done for work. The nurse made a point to explain to me (since I was pg) that the single use syringes are preservative free. So no issues here.
