Finally, my boy's Birth Story:
(There's a tldr; at the bottom for his name!)
So earlier in the day on 8/19 I had a couple episodes of "is this pee or sweat or a slow water leaking" situation, and those contractions from 4-6am. Finally after another "pee Or fluid" situation around 1, DH urged me to call the OB bc if I was leaking then that would be bad to ignore all day. They had me come in around 3:30pm and checked me out. Turns out it was not amniotic fluid (awkwardddd), but they did an ultrasound and noticed his fluid levels were low- at 4, when the minimum should be above 5 or something. So they decided to admit me and induce!
I got started on pitocin at 4:30pm, and was just relaxing for a long time. The contractions were coming but not bothering me enough to warrant any meds and then I was sitting in bed and around 10pm felt a lot of fluid - turns out my water broke! I was having contractions pretty frequently but they weren't strong enough so they kept going up on my pitocin. Around... 12? suddenly I started to be really uncomfortable and in pain. I was like F THIS. EPIDURAL COME AT ME!! .... and at that moment the team got called to an emergency C-section... which meant I'd have to wait at least an hour to get my epidural. I was so unhappy to hear that but I guess my Dr or my nurse pulled some strings and they got an anesthesia team from another area of the hospital to come do my epidural within like 20min. Amazing. I was so much more comfortable. After the epidural one of the Drs came to check me and I was 8cm and 100% effaced! I was proud I had lasted that long without any meds. Then a couple hours later I started to get awful right lower back hip pain and the epidural was doing nothing for that one spot. I was in agony. I got checked again and not much change so they told me to labor down and we started some small pushing and then took a break by sitting totally upright and then my hip pain started to fade. Thank god.
Then around 3:45am they checked me and I was ready to go. So at about 4am we started pushing and it was so hard with an epidural. I wasn't feeling pressure at that point to push so it was like just pushing when they told me a contraction was coming. Then I started to feel pressure and then they were like "want to touch his head?" And I did, it was RIGHT there and it was so cool and weird haha. And then the dr went to put his gown on and adjust the table and put that bag thing under me etc and they were like "Take a break- DONT PUSH!" And I was like I HAVE TO PUSH SO MUCH PRESSURE!!! And they're like STOP PUSHING and I did but I was like involuntarily pushing! I couldn't control it and I was like OMG BEN CATCH THE BABY IF HE COMES OUT! And the dr was like staaaaahhhp and then he was ready and they were like "he's coming, you don't even have to push..." and wham! He popped out!
Noah Marquez was born after 12.5 hours of labor and 1 hour and 5 min of pushing at 8 lbs 8.2 oz and 21 inches long. Marquez is my mom's maiden name, and she hasn't stopped crying since he was born and since we told her his name on Tuesday.
They put him on my chest and I kissed the crap out of him all gooey and he cried and cried and I almost cried and DH cut the cord and it was amazing.
And then things got complicated. Apparently my placenta wouldn't come out, then there was a piece of retained placenta, and I started hemorrhaging. They were doing everything they could and I'm in half la-la land of my baby! And half of - wow, this uterine massage is really hurting, Dr is still going at it wtf?.... and so they had to call a hemorrhage code so my Dr looks at me and the nurse is like I have to take the baby, and he says in the calmest voice ever, so I have to call a hemorrhage code, which means a million people are going to flood in here, it's going to be very loud and busy. And I was like what? 😳 and they made DH go stand by the baby and then I started panicking when they kept giving me shots of medicine and trying to start IVs that wouldn't work- and then the sites kept bleeding- I was freaking out I was going to bleed out and die. And apparently more realistically, DH was worried they were going to have to do an emergency hysterectomy. And then suddenly everything was okay. And I feel like my stomach is so bruised from their "massages", and my arms have bruises from the shots they gave me, but man. That was NOT how I pictured my labor ending. ☹️
So now the TMI- I have a second degree tear- ouch. And as we all know, I had struggled with hemhorroids this pregnancy so of course my pushing made things so much worse that I ended up with another colorectal surgeon consult bc the Drs post delivery were worried I had prolapsed something (I didn't, luckily), but seriously the hemhorroids have been giving me worse pain than the tear! 😕
And the team that was caring for me once I was in the recovery / mother -baby unit were sucking ass at my pain control - I went more than 12 hours without any meds and then they gave me motrin. I was so unhappy and crying a lot and DH was livid and finally on Monday when my actual OB came to visit (he had delivered the baby) DH and I told him what was happening and he laid down the law and then I was happily getting meds q6 around the clock.
OMG SO LONG!
