peacock, I have zero clue what a chicken choker is, but I do know that is a big DNW. It's a small brown beetle. It was the worst moment of my life. Wait...a little brown beetle? That's gross, but not the thing I googled. ::goes to figure out how to spoiler::

beckyj2013, redbears, I itch so bad. I went to the doctor once and he was like "just don't run so far then". LOL Helpful. It has something to do with blood flowing to areas it hasn't in a while too quickly, so it itches. I do find I can build a tolerance to it. Like right now, running for 5 minutes makes me itch. But I have gotten it to 2 hours before. Wind makes it worse. the thing I have found most helpful is compression tights. Shorts make me literally act like a crazy person haha. The run/walk is the only thing that has helped me bring up my itch tolerance. It's annoying as fuck.

It is also worse for me when it is cold outside. Glad I'm not the only one.

I'm a consistent runner - I run 5k 2-3 times a week. I'm signed up for a 10k with friends this fall, and so need to work on making one of those runs longer and longer to get my distance up. This spring, I've been doing the Bikini Body Mommy workout videos on my non-run days, and I think the strength training has really helped increase my speed - I've dropped about a minute/mile.

Hope it's ok I jump in here. I ran a lot before getting pregnant and up until 25ish weeks preg. It's been a slow go at it getting back into a good routine. Now that DS is 3 months it's getting easier to leave him with DH and go for my runs. I signed up for a half in November so I have some motivation to get out there. Will hopefully get a good one in tomorrow morning. Similar situation here. I'm very impatiently waiting for DD to have the neck strength to use the double jogger. That way I can run whenever and I won't have to wait for DH to be home. Dumb(ish) question- do you have an infant car seat, and can it be secured in the jogger? My lo's pediatrician gave the green light to take her running at a few months old b/c the jogger I have (graco lynx) is a click-connect for her car seat. It does add extra weight, and running surfaces should still be fairly smooth, but it worked out really well for me.

peacock I'm waiting patiently (read impatiently) as well for LO to be able to ride in the jogger. Any recs for a good baby jogger? Mine with DD was given to me by a friend and is completely worn out at this point. I've been using a graco lynx for 17 months now and so far it's still really good. It's a pita to fill the tires (we had to buy a smaller pump) and it's a little heavy (27lbs), but not too unwieldy. I've been able to get it out of my trunk while holding lo. The basket underneath is a good size, and it has an accessory bag with a place for two bottles and a zipper pouch, plus a cup holder for lo. I take it on packed clay and paved trails mostly.

This would totally work because where I run is pretty much 100% smooth.

Sorry I clearly don't image well. Is that the thing you ingested on your run? It makes a little brown beetle seen...maybe not so terrible. 🤢

Hi! Can I join you guys? I just started Couch to 5K over the weekend. I've started it many times but never actually finished it. I really want to stick with it this time so maybe talking to other people will help me keep it up!

I really want to start nightly walks with DS but I have a terrible dog phobia and there are a few dogs on my street that I don't trust. Makes it super uncomfortable to walk the neighborhood. I should just suck it up and do it though!
I itch when I exercise. I take an allergy pill a few hours before I know I'm going to do it.

Hope it's okay if I jump in here. I used to run all the time before DS and enjoyed it. I've barely ran since and he's 2 1/2 now. I'm going to start on Monday and see how far I make it with DS in the jogger.

I finally dragged myself out for my first run in a month. It was the first one since my surgery in early May. It felt great to do it again, though I obviously lost some endurance during my month off and had to walk after about the first 15 minutes...but stuck with it for 45 minutes total of running and walking. I really need to make this more of a habit. Great job to everyone who has been taking the first step and those who have been sticking with it. Reading this thread is great motivation.

I'm making myself go to the gym now even though I really want to enjoy the quiet of nap time. Probably shouldn't mess it all up week 1!

Since I have a double jogger the seats are to narrow for the seat to snap in.

I was able to do 2.5 miles yesterday morning. I usually don't get out there as early as I did yesterday so I'm wondering if that made my miles slower than normal. Or maybe I just need to get out there more..

I got out Wednesday evening for a run around the neighborhood. Then was on the treadmill on Saturday. I need to add a 3rd run to my week. I also walk 1.5-2 mi on my lunch break nearly every day. Finding good podcasts to listen to have been a big motivator for me. DD2 (19 mos) loves to be in the stroller (like gets really pissed when we're done and I take her out of it) and I like having a place to keep all my stuff on my run. DD1 will be 6 this summer. She is getting close to the age where she could bike with me on a run but not quite. She stops a lot.
I think my plan for this week is gym tonight to run on the treadmill, run outdoors Thursday evening then go for my longer run Sunday morning.
The training plan I found is Couch to 1/2 marathon in 20 weeks. This week it's 2 30 min runs (doing run/walk intervals) and then a 4 mile run on the weekend (also intervals).

I did week 1 of Couch to 5K and now week number 2 starts. I was telling H that it was way easier than I thought it would be, considering how out of shape I am right now, and I think I figured out something that really should have been obvious to me a long time ago...start slow. Duh. I think in the past I've tried to do too much right away and burnt out. This time I was convinced any running would kill me so I put it at a pace barely above a walk and it really wasn't bad. Hopefully that will be the key to keeping this going!

BUT I will be the contradiction here and just throw this out there. Unrelated to jogging, DD had a brain tumor and brain surgery, but we got to spend LOTS of time with her neurologist, who basically said FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DON'T PUT YOUR KID IN A JOGGER UNTIL THEY ARE ABLE TO SIT UP ON THEIR OWN. (I was pregnant at the time and had brought up jogging with DS in the stroller once he was born.)

I was constantly huffing and puffing my way through & felt terrible. I googled some techniques and it made a huge different (basically just breathe in for 3-4 counts/steps and out for the same). You may already have a good technique, but I thought I'd share in case it helps someone

Definitely no technique here! I love the idea of running, but hate the process of getting there. Any help is good I will try that out and see if it makes it a little easier.

leilapup happy to help Learning the breathe while running also helped me with any cardio. I like Jillian Michaels & I was amazed at home much easier (not really easy!) her cardio workouts are, with proper breathing.

I tried it again after DS and thought I was going to die. Maybe I'll give it a try again once I get the running figured out.

Hiiiiii! New runner here. I've always hated it, but now that I have a supportive sports bra and free access to a treadmill, it's not so bad.
I just started week 4 of C25K and man, that was tough. I think I'm going to redo week 3 to build up my endurance a little. My goal is to run my first 5K on 10/7, so I'm excited to get there.
