March 19, 2024 The meme actor has changed his phone number several times over the past couple of months because he wants to break it off with the reality star, but he then changes his mind and the process repeats itself. Timothée Chalamet/Kylie Jenner I would say this is typical "young love" nonsense, but he's nearing 30. They need to grow up.

Jolene was literally just a bank teller that was flirting with Dolly's husband. She's even admitted the real story wasn't as deep as the song she wrote. I have a feeling Beyonce's emotions behind the song are probably more intense than Dolly's were based on Jay-Z being who he is lol. I agree with babybean that the concept behind the song feels outdated. That said, I still enjoy listening to it, ha. Dolly’s also quoted as saying "One night, I was on stage, and there was this beautiful little girl — she was probably eight years old at the time," Dolly told the outlet. "And she had this beautiful red hair, this beautiful skin, these beautiful green eyes, and she was looking up at me, holding, you know, for an autograph. I said, 'Well, you're the prettiest little thing I ever saw. So what is your name?' And she said, 'Jolene.' And I said, 'Jolene. Jolene. Jolene. Jolene.' I said, 'That is pretty. That sounds like a song. I'm going to write a song about that.'" ETA: the bank teller story more heavily influenced it I assume. I kind of hate she ties an 8 year old into the mix.

IDK y'all.
I can overthink with the best of them, but Jolene is just a catchy song that Dolly killed and I like Beyonce's version too.
The older I get, the less I feel invested in shit like this. If it bugs you, don't listen to it.
And I think the story about the name is cute. It's not like she's suggesting the 8 year old is involved in a love triangle.

That makes sense and I get it. I think I always took it as Jolene knew he was married and still want after him which I find it ok to hate the woman too if that is the case but yes the man should get the most push back I have loved all the trust no one is coming for your man memes I read two takes that make sense to me: 1) it's about a Black woman protecting her Black family and telling Jolene not to even try it 2) it's actually written from Ms. Tina's perspective and what she went through I can see both which option 1 would fall in line with the rest of the album. Also raised that man kind of TO ME matches her song upgrade you with Destiny’s child. She is saying that she made him what he is today. Again it isn’t my favorite of the album and I get all the cringe perspective and can see how you would get that. I just didn’t go there myself

Same but I also get it I guess because I have a song too The one song I can’t like is Kill Bill. Everyone tells me I’m to invested in the song and I don’t get it but I just can’t.

I also think that the lyrics prob weren’t that deep and just flowed with the song well. Not saying Beyoncé doesn’t put thought into her lyrics but that for this particular song (a cover of Jolene) she was just putting a spin on it and it flowed well lol

I feel there is this Taylor Swift thing with music right now where everyone is looking for Easter eggs and it’s fine but sometimes it’s too much. Sometimes a song is just a song. I love finding meaning in lyrics but not everything has to be that deep. The one thing I do like is that people are back into making albums again rather than just hits and that’s a good thing. But then people over analyze track selection and order. Collectively, we (general we) are a lot right now. Which I don’t blame people for because we have to find joy where we can. But I think this is a unique time.

I will say I think I love 90s r&b and music that tells a story or has meaning and like you said earlier just flows

I do get my hackles up a bit though because I feel like the deep analysis of lyrics and trying to tie meaning back to lyrics mostly happens with female artists. I get that Taylor eggs it on and invites it. But it happens with lots of female artists. Like if they divorce the expectation is there next album is all about that. But like what if they want to put out love songs. It doesn’t have to be about a certain person. It’s too much! I’ve seen it happen a little with Noah Kahan and Zach Bryan but not to the same extreme. But I think it’s just how online everyone is now and needing something to talk about.

Maybe this is more of a FFFC but in addition to the songs mentioned, I've also sang "Does He Love You?" (both the Reba and the Linda parts) way too many times to count and one of my good friends and I used to have quite the time with that duet on Karaoke night.

Alanis’ “you oughta know” is another good example of a song I had no business scream singing as a literal child.

I’ve been laughing with people roasting JayZ bc of that Jolene song. No one will convince me Beyonce didn't intend exactly that, either. She's too smart/aware of how this all works.
