I'll start with good news! DD1 has grown so much this school year and was recommended for honors classes in everything except math, where she'll still get her IEP services, though with them is she currently considered grade level. Just leaps and bounds everything is better. We are so proud of her! And DD2 just got recommended for our school's Young Scholars program, which is a feeder program for the pull out tag classes in 4th grade, but she'll start receiving differentiated services in the classroom (she's currently 2nd grade). Also proud of her and think she'll really benefit from this! Same week we were also put on notice for DD2's attendance (she's been sick, not a lot we can do?! we've even given doctor notes, but I guess that doesn't mean much), which seems in direct opposition to the TAG recommendation... but I get the state is trying to crack down. Obviously she isn't the problem.

This weekend was our last of the hockey season. I was my daughters team coach and Saturday afternoon I played in the end of season coaches game. I haven't played in 15 years. My body still hurts today and I'm waiting for a giant bruise to pop up on my leg. I had so much fun though. I forgot how much I loved playing.
In other exciting news, we are finally getting scheduled for tubes and tonsil/adenoid removal. This winter has been such a struggle.

District Taco is a reliable standby and quick/easy. For family friendly, Chef Geoffs West End is great. My kids also love Succotash. Elephant and Castle gets a lot of hype but TBH, we've been there a couple of times and the food was good but the service was painfully slow. DD actually fell asleep in my lap waiting for her food. We really like Zaytinya, though that's a small plates place and they don't have a kids' menu. But I always stan José Andres.

Also Union Station and L'Enfant Plaza both have food courts and are just a couple of minutes away by Metro. That can be an easy way to feed a crowd of varying demands. And absolutely check out the food trucks that line the mall during lunch time!

I participated in a spelling bee last night! It's a fundraiser for a local nonprofit and so much fun! I lost on the word divagate, which I had never before heard in my life lol. I finished 6/17.

I don’t even know how to pronounce that. Could be the concussion talking, though. But I’ve also never heard it either.

We have a lockdown drill today at 2:00. I can already feel my anxiety creeping up. My daughter is in a classroom in the same hall, so if there were an actual situation I am not sure how I would handle it. I also work with spec ed Kindergarten. There is not a quiet moment in this room on a regular day, so I can't see this going well. For some reason, the protocols have changed and we are not supposed to have the door windows covered. The reason given was for the police to be able to see in. Umm, but so could a shooter.

My dad turns 80 today. Let’s see if that birthday card from the White House arrives.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed as sports my children enjoy all begin: track x1, soccer x3, baseball x2. Then add in I'm helping with the throwers, it is a lot. Now that the schedules are out and there isn't too much overlap, I am actually enjoying it.

For the first time, my two are in different activities. so we have softball 2X a week, dance for both each week, Girl Scouts every other week (of which I am the leader) and DD1 is doing stage crew for the junior high play, so she has that after school occasionally. With DH working second shift, I do all the running around. So it gets a little tirinh.

Resetting my brain to remember to get gas out of the "regular" schedule and then dinner are the most challenging parts of all of it. Clearly too many changes all at once.
