My DD2's birthday is next month, and she wants to invite several of her school friends. She was very specific that she did not want to invite everyone (no boys allowed! lol), and I can't send invites to school unless the whole class is invited. I do not know the parents of any of the kids. Do I send a note to school with my phone number and ask the parents to text me? There's no class list with phone numbers. With my older kids, I've known at least one of the kids' parents, and I was able to get contact info for the other parents through them, but that is not the case here.

Yes that's what I used to do; send a note or ask DS to get the other kid's parent's #. I find a lot of parents won't follow through so I prefer to get their contact info if I can. You could also ask the teacher to email the other parents with your contact information, which I've seen some do in the past.

Does your school have a parent only part of the website where there’s a family directory?
I know that’s really dependent on the type of school. That’s how I got a bunch of parents’ #s for play dates.

I think I'll try sending a note first, and if I don't get a response, I'll ask the teacher.

I wish, but this is regular public school, so I imagine they avoid that to sidestep any potential liability issues.

For DS’s birthday, I got a list of kids from him and then emailed it to the teacher with party and RSVP info and asked her to pass it on. I had asked the teacher first and this is what she said to do, as she cannot pass contact info to me. It worked well and I had responses from everyone within days.

IME it’s a good idea to let the teacher know, because my DD’s 4th grade teacher doesn’t allow them to pass notes. Very strict plane, lol.

I will definitely have to let her know because it's kindergarten, so she's going to need some assistance. If she was older, I'd probably ask my DD to try to covertly hand invitations to her friends.

My DD mostly invited people outside of school, which was easy for me, but the one friend from school I did send an invitation (paper invitation) with DD and just told her to be discreet so that others don’t feel left out. From there, the mom texted me.

Have you received any emails from the teacher in which the parents were regular CCed instead of blind CCed?

As a teacher I’ve forwarded a parents info to other families for them-not party info, but like parent A would send me an email explaining her kid wants to play with kids B and C, can I please forward parent A email address/phone number to families of B and C-might be an option for you.

Our district doesn’t allow directories and I wouldn’t want to ask the teacher to be the go between. My go tos have been Facebook lookup if you know the parents’ names (which I’ve also figured out from signup genius at times) or asking other parents I do know- I’m active in the PTA and I swear our PTA president knows every family in the school.

We have directories for our public schools. ours does too, on the PTO website. you have to opt in to be included, and you have to be logged in (and therefore invited) to view it. i'm only replying to this bc that directory has made my life easier about 86000 times in the last 3 years and i highly recommend for anyone who is inclined to take on a project.

Anecdotally our public school district doesn't do directories.
