I will have to double check how to do this but on my phone I can switch profiles like when I go to my profile there is a drop down box and I have the kids profiles listed. I can google instructions for myself, if you don't know off the top of your head. I appreciate you mentioning is as an option! I think if your browser is chrome, that’s all there is to it. You can then see the full search history if you want to as you normally would with any profile. The only assumption is that kids can’t go incognito on the browsers under their profiles.

My kid did something similar around the same age. He heard the word cum at school and even though we had gone through “the talk“ already, I couldn’t possibly cover all slang so that wasn’t something he knew. He googled it and of course porn hub came up with like a cum on boobs video and yeah… not great.
I thought I had everything locked down by he was browsing as a guest so it wasn’t on his school account and blocked. I fixed that loophole. We had the porn is not real life talk and have had many internet safety talks since then.
It happens. They are exposed to more than we know and we just have to learn from it and handle it the best we can. Every slang word I hear him say or I know he hears, I just define it now. Because I’d rather tell him than him guess or use it wrong. We have some fun talks. For some reason he heard “knockers” the other day in reference to boobs and he thought that was pretty funny. 🤦🏻♀️

I don't have this set up. Could you help me? How do you have the kids' school google account on your phone? You're just logged in as them as one of your profile options on your phone and you know their password for that account? I hadn't considered this, but like the idea of it because DS spends a lot of time on his school chromebook. I will have to double check how to do this but on my phone I can switch profiles like when I go to my profile there is a drop down box and I have the kids profiles listed. Well, today's the day I realized B changed the phone number on his Google account from mine to his. THIS FUCKING KID.

I find some of the replies here odd but I will ignore. I believe it was him. So what? This doesn't make him a bad kid. I remember we have talked about this in the past here and I tried to share but it did not go over well. It turned into a very not my kid kind of place. Yes, your kid. It doesn't matter if you do not let your kid have a phone or a tv in their room and that you all watch Disney all weekend. They get in school and they are talking about dick, pussy, cum, all of it. I am just telling you what I have seen through work. I am telling you what I have seen in my area. I am telling you what I have seen with my own children. Can confirm this talk. My middle schoolers have filthy mouths. Even some of the 6th grade the 10 and 11 year olds. By 8th grade it's 100% of the kids are at least in the know about ALL OF IT.

My DS looked up terms on his phone at around that age. I didn’t have strict parental controls then but I do now.
I went with the approach of talking about what he saw, and we had several talks about what sex is, what porn is, how it isn’t a real representation of relationships, and consent. And then I made sure DS knew that the subject was open and not taboo and he could ask me, his dad, his stepmom or his stepdad any questions at any time without judgement. He’s 12 now and not going to tell me everything, but he will still ask me about things kids say sometimes.

Last year mine made himself an entirely new Google account so he could log in on the TV and watch unrestricted YouTube. So we have his google on lock but here's an entirely new one we didn't know about. And he used the same password. Ooooh boy I was fuming. These fucking kids.

If you are able to look into pausing some devices at night on a schedule or whatever so that even if they sneak and get a device from a friend, they cannot get on the wifi. Also it alerts you to new devices trying to get on your wifi.

We got an email last week about our 9 year old being part of a playground discussion about Onlyfans, so yeah. That stuff is definitely happening at this age, and the kids who don’t know what the heck is going on are definitely nodding along and repeating it and then secretly going home and Googling it, or asking parents if you’re lucky.

Yes. All of this. These kids hear all kinds of things, but do not really necessarily comprehend it fully.
The other day, a show was on TV in the background and the kids were doing something else and the show made a vague reference to a vibrator. The 8 year old was like what is a vibrator? He's dual language and makes a point to ask about English words he doesn't know. my 10-year-old immediately responded, "I don't know but mom might have one". I immediately laughed because this was an unexpected interaction but it prompted some questions with them and we basically explained that vibrators can be used in sexual activity, it's for adults, and any woman OR man could have them, not just mom's which was his assumption 😅. It was dropped pretty quickly after that and we moved on.
One thing we do with our kids though is to remind them not to use words if they aren't confident in it's meaning. Just come ask us and we can talk about it. This generally works though obviously they don't think to ask every time. But as long as you handle it without shame it will be fine.

Also it alerts you to new devices trying to get on your wifi. This is a good idea, our Xfinity app had this feature. I can disable individual devices remotely.

As a 3rd grade teacher of 8, 9, and sometimes 10 year olds I just wanted to come in and say this is pretty common. I have at least one person a year who is caught trying to look up inappropriate things. And I’m sure there are some who do it and figure out how to not get caught. We have firewalls to try to flag these things but they don’t always catch them. My 10 year old knows a lot of things and it’s not because he’s exposed to it at home. Kids talk and they are curious.

If it's any consolation, the other health teacher and I were looking at stuff to buy with our budget money this morning. Games and models from the company that makes health education materials is so over priced. I found a board game on there called Sex and Consequences that I decided to try and find elsewhere cheaper. Let's just say my targeted ads are about to be pretty prevy now. And in case you're curious, no, Amazon does not carry that, but they do carry plenty of other things in the same concept that aren't educational 😂

cnf, incognito mode is your friend for those kinds of searches True. I didn't think much of it though, lol. I searched it work so even in incognito it'd still be on the district server in my search history. Guess I'd avoid the adds though. Looks like I'll be doing some online shopping tonight to shake up those algorithms
